^^ yeah the “hey by the way we won” stuff is fine when you’re nitpicking a win over a p4 team or if we had just improved to 3-1. But when you’re 2-2 with wins only over Richmond and App, it’s a bit hollow and lame

This kinda sums it up for me. I know people will say they’ve known for 13 years that Doeren sucked. But I think it’s clear that he was able to compete near the top of the conference for a period of time. Some 6-2 ACC seasons proves that. Always a step behind Clemson or FSU or whoever was competing at national title levels, but otherwise definitely and firmly in the second tier for a good stretch of time. Thats no longer the case. A combination of a lot of things…lack of talent across the board is part of it. But also lack of maximizing the talent we did have. We had Smothers (Texas), Rogers (Bama), Anderson (Southern Cal) on the offense last year and we didn’t do a lot to heavily feature those guys. We had studs (or at least guys that elite programs viewed as potential studs) on our team and the offense didn’t look drastically better than it does when we’re passing to Preston Douglas and Ashton Locklear.

It was clear Smothers was really good last year. But Rogers never really was peppered with targets and heavily featured in the offense. That feels like a mistake. Anderson was good, but same thing…he’d disappear for a game then have a big game. Feels like a failure of coaching to not force feed those guys.

The only reason to keep watching is to see what new lows Dave can reach and still keep his job week to week and debate whether, for example, 31 unanswered points is a bigger disaster than fumbling the game away in your own end zone on the last play. The guy is a parody of himself at this point.

Bye week coming up. Can Boo find his balls? Maybe Dave takes him out, too.
