Louis Murphy is a quality player. He'll work well with Cam because he can get down the field.
7/23/2012 2:05:29 PM
I like this move
7/23/2012 2:08:35 PM
I like this style
7/23/2012 2:12:49 PM
Hopefully he won't see the field. He was awful his rookie season and just marginally bad the past two seasons. He's a possession receiver with a below average catch rate and a lot of drops his first two seasons. Not much to like. To put things in perspective he has averaged 5 drops a year over the last three seasons. Naanee had 3 last season. At least Naanee could block really well.On the flip side we know he uses illegal Viagra pills at his sex parties so I guess that's cool for the guys who live in Charlotte.[Edited on July 23, 2012 at 2:17 PM. 7/23/2012 2:13:04 PM
what is your definition of a possession receiver?
7/23/2012 2:17:13 PM
I mean he's not Santana Moss/Wes Welker or anything but he's not exactly Mike Wallace/Torrey Smith either.Let's look at his 2010 numbers since he only had 15 catches last year, not much of a sample size.2010:Short 22%, Mid 47%, Deep 19%, Bomb 12%.In 2009 the numbers were a little deeper but he was horrendous that year and had a 35% completion rate for god's sake.
7/23/2012 2:23:01 PM
7/23/2012 2:25:53 PM
The average NFL receiver has caught 57% of the passes thrown to him each of the last three years.Murphy: 35%, 53%, 45%He had 15 catches for 241 yards and 0 TD last season. He's only 25 and sometimes it takes WR's 3-4 seasons to figure things out so he's not a complete lost cause but he wasn't going to make the Raiders roster this year so let's not get too carried away here.
7/23/2012 2:30:44 PM
Jesus I just looked into that 35% catch rate he put up in 2009. I know the Raiders had QB issues but that was the 10th lowest % in the entire NFL since 1991.

makes sense. We're set at LT, C, and RG with Gross, Kalil, and Hangartner (big season last year). At LG we have that 2nd round rookie and Pollack. At RT I guess we're going to go with Bryan Bell (sucks at pass blocking but a good run blocker) or Bruce Campbell who may be able to convert to tackle. We don't need Otah and his big ass injured reserve salary. Sucks though, thought he was going to be a good one.

good riddance [Edited on July 23, 2012 at 5:17 PM. Reason : autocorrect fail]

see ya later, loser.
7/23/2012 5:18:12 PM
Maybe we traded pickles for murphy.Expecting murphy to be anything other than a #4/5 wr is asking too much.
7/23/2012 5:36:26 PM
stoked as hell on murphyhope the conditional pick has a high ceiling and rex ryan gets otah's ass in gear^ murphy's overall stats are dogshit but he can make some plays too. we'll see. ]

I watch plenty of football. Murphy isn't on the field that much so its helpful to look at the stats. When you have the 10th lowest catch percentage in the past 20 years it's not JUST the QB.The guy just hasn't been good in his career. He couldn't make the Raiders roster for god's sake.Maybe things will work out, but considering the Panthers had the best rushing attack the NFL has seen in the past 20 years, I think it's worth noting that we might miss Naannee since he was clearly helpful holding downfield blocks.

thanks faceokay so i saw plenty of louis murphy his rookie year, happened to be associated with a raiders fan at the time. He's got speed after the catch with some elusiveness, and he has the potential to break long plays. Dude got ~35 and ~40 catches his first two years, with JaMarcus Russell/CHARLIE FRYE/wet tampon and then at least a competent qb in Jason Campbell. now that pass catching % is discouraging, but he hasn't had the best QB's throwing him the ball. Can't really explain last season except Hue Jackson is too strong of a hype machine or maybe Murphy shit in Carson Palmer's knee cartilage. For a 7th round pick, i'll take a 40 pass catcher that still has some upside.[Edited on July 23, 2012 at 10:30 PM. Reason : dude is fast as shit, Chud is gonna have Cam grippin' it and rippin' it]
7/23/2012 10:09:30 PM
murphy sucks but it's not like we had anyone betterotah doesnt suck but he never playedanother great first round pick by hurney!
7/24/2012 10:05:27 AM
there are a lot of things to bitch at marty hurney about1st round picks are not one of them
7/24/2012 10:40:20 AM
But trading away future firsts for the likes of Otah and Everette Brown certainly is, not to mention trading next years 33rd pick for this tears 89th
7/24/2012 10:57:30 AM
Drafting is an art not a sciencebesides, he doesn't have face's algorithm to go off of
7/24/2012 11:07:24 AM
it's going to fun in a few years (and it's already happening now) when everybody thinks that Cam was a slam dunk #1 overall pick
7/24/2012 11:11:17 AM
Yeah, I remember some people on here arguing that we should take Blaine Gabbert #1.
7/24/2012 11:20:03 AM
the cam pick is probably one of the greatest picks of all timetaking a shitload of RBs and LBs in the first round and having them pan out doesnt get you credit though
7/24/2012 11:44:28 AM
so what, you only give him props for Cam, Gross and Gamble?
7/24/2012 12:09:06 PM
^^WAT
7/24/2012 12:12:55 PM
Marty Hurney dick lickers ITT
7/24/2012 12:24:26 PM
I may be missing something here, but I don't believe anybody has said that he is an amazing GMit's just that he isn't as god awful as some people think he is and deserves credit for legitimately great draft pickshe also deserves to be talked shit about for his awful draft picks/trades
7/24/2012 12:38:36 PM
he did good work trading down to get extra picks and Beason at the end of the first round
7/24/2012 1:08:12 PM
see the problem is when people say he's making "legitimately great" draft picks about his first rounders like he's popping hall of famers every fucking year out of nowhereif every draft he did a cam - take a guy when people weren't totally sold on him and he turns into a stud, other examples demarcus ware, freeney, i'm sure many more - then yea, you can start to overlook his flawsbut taking thomas davis at 14, spending 3 years to figure out where to play him then paying him to sit on his ass injured after he has two good years isn't making the franchise significantly better
7/24/2012 1:33:36 PM
they drafted Thomas Davis specifically to stop Vick...and it worked. He was a safety/linebacker hybrid. Once he settled into playing linebacker he made quite a difference when we played other teams.

7/24/2012 2:58:47 PM
its a valid point. Anyone can select a good LB, RB, S because those positions aren't very valuable and the good/great ones slide down the board. That's not to say it's not important to address team needs and make smart picks sometimes, but you don't get an outsized amount of credit for taking a freaking LB that everyone knows will be good.Being a good drafter means nailing your QB's, DE's, Olinemen, etc. Overall he's done a good job in the draft, but I wouldn't consider it spectacular because he's got some real boners dragging him down like #33 pick for Armanti Edwards (maybe the worst player on any roster in the NFL?!), Everette Brown, Otah, etc.We haven't gotten a lot of producers from late rounds either. But the draft is not where Hurney gets ripped apart. It's the lackluster free agency results and the TERRIBLE results with re-signing our own players like Delhomme and basically the entire Fox regime. Deangelo was a pretty crippling deal too even though I like him and I hope it just goes down as a bad deal and not a total unmitigated disaster (he's 30!!!!)
7/24/2012 3:12:21 PM
Big Cat has plenty of say in who gets contract extensions...he signs the checksI'd put Hurney in the 15-20 range when ranking NFL GMs
7/24/2012 3:15:42 PM
Curious to see your list of 32, since most of us couldn't name half a dozen.
7/24/2012 3:22:08 PM
Pats........Hurney.......Raiders[Edited on July 24, 2012 at 3:23 PM. Reason : i dunno many GMs names but I know which teams fuck up more than we do]
7/24/2012 3:22:42 PM
Nice analysis, Sean Salisbury
7/24/2012 3:27:32 PM
7/24/2012 10:08:56 PM
Peppers didn't want to play here anymore...we offered him a long term contract which would've made him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history...it wasn't happening...not Hurney's fault...probably had to do with the fact that Peppers was and is a huge pussy
7/24/2012 10:15:13 PM
Kalil just got me so damn pumped for panthers football.http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/07/25/3403998/view-ryan-kalils-full-page-super.html
7/25/2012 7:53:25 AM
the problem isnt that peppers left. it's that he shouldve been traded once it was clear he wasnt coming back instead of paying him 20m for an 8-8 or 7-9 or whatever it was season
7/25/2012 8:55:37 AM
Let's talk about that awesome extension he gave Jake Delhomme.Or jettisoning Kasay and giving Lolindo Mare $4 million guaranteed.Or how the man can't draft a NFL caliber WR to save his damn life.
7/25/2012 9:08:56 AM
if we had kept Kasay we might've won 3 games a couple years ago and missed out on Cambuncha negative nancies in here
7/25/2012 9:26:02 AM
lol I came here to post that adit made me laff
7/25/2012 9:35:24 AM
Glad Cam didn't write that letterCenters can jaw jack and get away with it
