Was off and on with this girl before she left to go backpacking in Europe. I would have chosen to be "off", but she put the full-court press on before she left (I believe, in effort to tie me down so I wouldn't stray while she was away), and I, still being very attracted to her and in general really do like the girl, probably led her to believe things were "okay" when she left.

So she still thinks we're together. I feel like I'm single. Went out with a great girl and had an awesome date this past Sunday...so things are looking up on that front.

So I'm on the verge of a break-up...on the verge of getting together with someone else...and still with a good possibility of being strictly single.

And that's the short version...

lucy, perhaps you need to lower the bar. It seems like you have a lot of high standards. Either that, or you're looking for marriage. I know 26 is rough and all.

First...there shouldn't be a bar. You should just go out with people you're interested in. If you like them, keep it up. If you don't, move on. You'd be surprised how you can end up falling for someone that doesn't initially "reach your bar", and end up not liking someone who would seem perfect for you.

In the end...don't settle, but also don't be quick to judge.

when you're casually dating, you lower the bar because you just wanna have fun. when you're looking for long-term serious relationships that could potentially lead to marriage, you raise the bar.

Having a boyfriend should never interfere with having fun. Fun, however, is relative. If your idea of fun is one-night stands and stuff, then having a bf might get in the way. I just figured that if it wasn't too bad, then what the bf doesn't know won't hurt him. Going to clubs is innocent fun. Just don't give them any reason to be upset/jealous.
