when i took french 201 we had to do an exercise where we pretended to be celebrity and described ourselves to a partner while they tried to guess who we weremost people chose george bush or chuck amato, i chose greg fishelnot one person in the entire class knew who greg fishel was

hell no it wouldn't be nicei don't wanna be snowed in come monday when i have to leave
1/18/2008 12:24:51 AM
Yeah, snow is more pain than pleasure. Given current tech and social structure, anyways.
1/18/2008 12:25:46 AM
really, no one had heard of greg fisheli took it spring '04 i think, i don't remember the instructor -- some mousey lady who would get really pissed when no one came to class prepared
1/18/2008 12:26:03 AM
i heard 20 inches of fluffy snow was 1 inchlike 4 inches of wet snow is like an inch
1/18/2008 12:27:14 AM
Well for what its worth...thats what his model "nc weatherscope" says. He also mentioned that although it says 6-12"...most locations will be very close to the 6" side of things. Such a variable situation still. I just hope we don't have hour upon hour of virga.
1/18/2008 12:36:42 AM
From what I've been taught, a general rule is 10-12" of snow is one inch of water equivalent. It varies on crystal type and other things... Other models seem to be pointing that way as well. I'm cautiously optimistic for a good snowfall. At least it shouldn't have as much of the ice problem as previous systems (air above the surface should be cold enough).
1/18/2008 12:39:18 AM
snow amounts in terms of precip amounts are different in all parts of the world...no reason to try to make comparison
1/18/2008 12:39:35 AM
Yeh its all about the temp and moisture in the air. All confusing to me. I'm just channeling pictures of boston from earlier in the week!
1/18/2008 12:42:49 AM
the kids won't know what to do with a snow dayi hope the power goes out on them and they completely freak over having to play outside for once

^^the temps will be too cold to make it a purely wet power-outage type storm.boy it'll get cold too afterward [Edited on January 18, 2008 at 12:46 AM. Reason : http://www.weather.gov ftw]
1/18/2008 12:44:06 AM
the weather channel sucks for local shit^ice on power lines is the biggest cause of power outage isn't it?[Edited on January 18, 2008 at 12:44 AM. Reason : d]
1/18/2008 12:44:13 AM
^ at least there not predicting 12 inches
1/18/2008 12:45:27 AM
anyone still in MEA please tell me if this is a CAD event, if its classical CAD then it could be an awesome storm
1/18/2008 12:47:13 AM
^ that's the best for ice storms, not snow...
1/18/2008 12:47:59 AM
^^^^More like ice on trees near powerlines, I think.[Edited on January 18, 2008 at 12:48 AM. Reason : .]
1/18/2008 12:48:03 AM
it's gonna be the classical everyone get there hopes up for snow/ice and be let down, similar to our sports teams only it happens just slightly faster.[Edited on January 18, 2008 at 12:49 AM. Reason : .]
1/18/2008 12:48:26 AM
^^^^^^ice from freezing rain...is the main reason you lose power in the winter, but really wet snow. Such as a high water content snow falling w the temp right @ 32 degrees can also do that. Kind of like when 20" fell in Moore Co back in Jan 25th 2000 (perfect for snow balls). They had crazy power outages, while places like Raleigh that got a little colder were able to get the champagne powder that can just get swept off the steps w/ a broom and is perfect for skiing in.[Edited on January 18, 2008 at 12:49 AM. Reason : asdf]
1/18/2008 12:49:23 AM
classical is good for either, not just ice...the northerly winds are making me think its CAD, but i dont have resources in front of me
1/18/2008 12:49:27 AM
does Fishel just exaggerate for the ratings?
1/18/2008 12:50:52 AM
^ I don't think so... but he is overly optimisticI wouldn't have put that info on the air yet... especially with so much uncertainty [Edited on January 18, 2008 at 12:51 AM. Reason : ]
1/18/2008 12:51:15 AM
nah, i remember he predicted rain once, and it snowed a lot
1/18/2008 12:51:25 AM
he doesn't really exaggerate. he only mentions things when there are chances. he was just showing what a model showed. He didn't say everyone will get a foot.
1/18/2008 12:51:47 AM
This reminds me of the Michael Vick Weekend Update on SNL...Really? Snow in Raleigh... Really?Get ready for a wet and depressing Saturday very similar to today...
