when i took french 201 we had to do an exercise where we pretended to be celebrity and described ourselves to a partner while they tried to guess who we were

most people chose george bush or chuck amato, i chose greg fishel

not one person in the entire class knew who greg fishel was

Yeah, snow is more pain than pleasure.

Given current tech and social structure, anyways.

Well for what its worth...thats what his model "nc weatherscope" says. He also mentioned that although it says 6-12"...most locations will be very close to the 6" side of things. Such a variable situation still. I just hope we don't have hour upon hour of virga.

From what I've been taught, a general rule is 10-12" of snow is one inch of water equivalent. It varies on crystal type and other things...

Other models seem to be pointing that way as well. I'm cautiously optimistic for a good snowfall. At least it shouldn't have as much of the ice problem as previous systems (air above the surface should be cold enough).

snow amounts in terms of precip amounts are different in all parts of the world...no reason to try to make comparison

Yeh its all about the temp and moisture in the air. All confusing to me. I'm just channeling pictures of boston from earlier in the week!

^^the temps will be too cold to make it a purely wet power-outage type storm.

boy it'll get cold too afterward

it's gonna be the classical everyone get there hopes up for snow/ice and be let down, similar to our sports teams only it happens just slightly faster.

^^^^^^ice from freezing rain...is the main reason you lose power in the winter, but really wet snow. Such as a high water content snow falling w the temp right @ 32 degrees can also do that. Kind of like when 20" fell in Moore Co back in Jan 25th 2000 (perfect for snow balls). They had crazy power outages, while places like Raleigh that got a little colder were able to get the champagne powder that can just get swept off the steps w/ a broom and is perfect for skiing in.

he doesn't really exaggerate. he only mentions things when there are chances. he was just showing what a model showed. He didn't say everyone will get a foot.

I've got to worry about this forecast as it relates to PM2.5 forecasts. I've not yet decided where I'm going to go. Will know more when I see the 12Z runs.

Nat. Weather Service: Periods of rain before 10am, then periods of rain and snow between 10am and 1pm, then periods of snow after 1pm. High near 40. North wind between 7 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH
SATURDAY AFTERNOON...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY
AFTERNOON.

PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA
DURING THE DAY ON SATURDAY. AS IT DOES SO...MUCH COLDER AIR WILL
SPREAD INTO THE AREA FROM THE WEST. THE AIRMASS APPEARS TO BE COLD
ENOUGH AT THE ONSET OF THE EVENT SATURDAY MORNING FOR MOST OF THE
PRECIPITATION TO FALL AS SNOW ACROSS THE WESTERN PIEDMONT. FURTHER
EAST TOWARD THE NORTHERN PIEDMONT AND NORTHEAST COASTAL PLAIN...THE
PRECIPITATION WILL LIKELY START OUT AS A COLD RAIN SATURDAY MORNING
BUT SHOULD CHANGE OVER TO SNOW DURING THE LATE MORNING OR EARLY
AFTERNOON.

SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE...WHICH COULD
CAUSE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS TO TRAVEL.

SOME UNCERTAINTY STILL EXISTS WITH THIS EVENT. THE EXACT TRACK OF
THE SURFACE LOW AND THE TIMING OF THE COLDER AIR WILL ULTIMATELY
DETERMINE THE SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION POTENTIAL.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
