well, when you say "tackling in an open field" it kindof implies that they're running at you, like a drill. not that they're going to start and go straight for the corner and run around you.
4/19/2008 9:34:23 PM
I can hit a golfball 300 yards but there is no telling where it will end up
4/19/2008 9:35:06 PM
i have a mean happy gilmore style shot
4/19/2008 9:35:38 PM
open field means they are full speed and you are not yet moving, and they can go wherever they want.... so you are wrong.and ssclark, this discussion isnt about being able to get a hit... but be able to hit the ball from what the first post says
4/19/2008 9:36:08 PM
i'll tell you what would be harder than all of that. out pole vaulting a world class pole vaulter. or out hurdling a world class hurdler.
4/19/2008 9:38:25 PM
a no hitter doesnt mean someone didnt hit the ball....means they didnt get on baseany of these things would be hard as fuck....[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 9:39 PM. Reason : agree to disagree i'm thinkin]
4/19/2008 9:38:42 PM
where did you read no hitter... here is the original post:
4/19/2008 9:39:32 PM
you still wouldnt beable to hit the ball. have any of you even faced a 100 mph fastball ? it's hard to make contact at 93 ... 100 is silly :x^ we were refereing to the post made by what's his name that stated that baseball wasnt hard because pitchers never threw perfect games.[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 9:41 PM. Reason : .]
4/19/2008 9:40:24 PM
yea, like i said you cannot compare sports, each is completely individualthe only way it to compare how an average joe would do
4/19/2008 9:40:43 PM
i think it would be fairly easy to stop a penalty shot in hockey though[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 9:41 PM. Reason : waiting for hockey-know-it-alls to summon]
4/19/2008 9:40:52 PM
^^nah, just compare how the pros do in their sport....compare BA to shot stopped by goaly during a shoot out....i'm sure there would be way more statistics involved thoughyou ever faced an 80 mph penalty shot from 36 feet away?[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 9:42 PM. Reason : fppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp]
4/19/2008 9:41:00 PM
or out-lifting a world class power-lifter, or out running a world class sprinter, or beating an nba player in one on one, or kicking Federer's ass in tennis......this thread is fucking stupid.
4/19/2008 9:41:18 PM
dude i could hit high 80s low 90s when i was 16-17 years old, but i'd NEVER be able to stop an nfl rb in the open fieldboth are hard, granted, but the latter is harder[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 9:43 PM. Reason : ^you are talking about a competition, not a single event]
4/19/2008 9:41:35 PM
oh i have no comment on that. i was simply saying... comparing hitting a 100 mph fastball to hitting a golfball is beyond asinine
4/19/2008 9:41:45 PM
i think they are comparable, since it is an average
4/19/2008 9:43:50 PM
I think some of you dont understand how hard it is to hit a golf ball 300yds.^^^I guarantee you I could hit a ML pitch before you could hit a golf ball 300yds. Not saying I could do it consistently, but I would make contact before you hit it 300yds[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 9:45 PM. Reason : .]
4/19/2008 9:43:53 PM
4/19/2008 9:44:23 PM
can we rephrase it to 300-yard fairway shot
4/19/2008 9:46:26 PM
^Well I kinda thought that was implied. I mean fairway or atleast on the same hole.
4/19/2008 9:52:07 PM
you would thinkbut then people are all like "YEA I COULD DO THAT BUT IT WOULDNT GO STRAIGHT LOLOL"
4/19/2008 9:52:52 PM
no need to flame me - i really can drive the long ball, but it is infrequent that it is on target.
4/19/2008 9:54:36 PM
i dont pay attention to who types whatso i might be flaming others as well
4/19/2008 9:56:21 PM
Trying to even just hit a golf ball can make even some of the best athletes in the world look like fools, let alone hit it 300yds.Said athlete would get a hit long before he could hit it 300+
4/19/2008 10:02:41 PM
i think it has more to do with correctly developed muscles...some sports prolly make it impossible to have a good swing.
4/19/2008 10:04:07 PM
What if the guy is wearing roller skates while he tries to hit the golf ball?
4/19/2008 10:30:22 PM
4/19/2008 10:35:55 PM
I'm not getting in to this retarded argument but I bet 97% of this website would piss themselves if they had to get in the box against a live pitcher who could throw 90+ and break off a slider or curveball that looks like it's headed for your skull and crosses right over the heart of the plate...and i like how people are acting like b/c they could hit some stiff's 85 mph fastball in high school that they could step up and look like anything but a drunk chick against a major leaguer...[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 10:47 PM. 4/19/2008 10:45:25 PM
97% of this website and Carlos Delgado
4/19/2008 10:46:53 PM
howbout stopping a 100mph slapper. bet you cant do it.
4/19/2008 10:51:13 PM
We need to define this a lot better. Are we talking about is it hard for A)- A pro in said sport to do the task at hand...block a soccer kick, hit a MLB pitch, or hit a golf ball?or B)- An avg joe trying to do one of these tasks?
4/19/2008 10:54:27 PM
can i take someone up on the 300+ yards thing? i am god's gift to athletics b/c i've some shots over 300
4/19/2008 10:58:28 PM
The damn golf shot is not comparable to these other two.Sure, it's something that not that many people can do, but people who can do it will do it regularly. The baseball shot and penalty kick is something that is difficult for even the best to do."OMF the hardest thing in the world is to run a 9.74 in the 100 meters!"
4/20/2008 1:31:54 AM
choosing what sports feat is the most difficult for joe schmoe off the street is retarded.there are all sorts of things that are just flat out impossible.i think that hitting a baseball has gotta be up there as one of most difficult things in sports, if not THE most.
4/20/2008 1:37:43 AM
Actually, if you wanna go on the pro level of things that are actually doable among pro athletes, the hole in one has to be the hardest. It happens only a few times a year on tour.
4/20/2008 2:15:35 AM
I have the winner....The albatross....Rarest thing ever in all of sports.3 under on one hole./thread
4/20/2008 2:23:08 AM
uh 100mph fastball sirs
4/20/2008 2:45:25 AM
4/20/2008 2:46:55 AM
soccerthe goal is bigger
4/20/2008 2:57:37 AM
soccer......the ball is bigger
4/20/2008 3:01:05 AM
it just depends, like if i just try to make contact and touch the ball. i can hit 100+ from a pitcher easybut when putting curve balls, screw balls, sliders, slurves, change ups, and so on into the mix...........i really dont have a chance and its luck if i do. so really the fact of the ratio between the bat and the strike zone and the ballvsthe ration of a soccer ball, the goal, and the goalkeeperi really think baseball is harder.
4/20/2008 3:33:53 AM
The baseball/soccer comparison is stupid. It is mostly luck to stop a penalty kick. There isn't much skill or athleticism involved.
4/20/2008 2:03:21 PM
okay then. what about hitting a baseball v stopping a hockey puck.
4/20/2008 2:04:19 PM
there is a reason people are "PROFESSIONALS" in certain fields that most everyone else considers a game or a hobbythey're damn good at what they do and for that, they get paid to go do it
4/20/2008 2:09:41 PM
wow man thats freakin deep
4/20/2008 2:19:51 PM
haha lolnaw
4/20/2008 2:20:11 PM
how about letting this thread die you dumb fucking mokes.
4/20/2008 2:25:00 PM
People mention that they could probably stop 1 in 20 PKs against a pro soccer player. I would say that the average person might be able to get a hand on 1 in 20 PKs, but not stop them. I would compare it to fouling off a pitch from a pro pitcher.A soccer ball is kicked with significant velocity that it's not just about choosing the right side. Also, there are a lot of places where it is physically impossible to stop the ball. Anything anywhere near the post is impossible for a pro goalie to stop, and anything more than about arms length away from the center line would be nearly impossible for a lay person to stop. And when we say hit a baseball, are we talking "get a hit" as in be able to make it to first base, or just get the ball in play somewhere. If it's just get the ball in play, I definitely say the PK is harder. If it's successfully get a hit, then I would go with baseball.
4/20/2008 2:27:46 PM
mokes?
4/20/2008 2:28:11 PM
for the golf and baseball argument.....the mechanics of swinging play a major role.....chances are, if you are a good baseball player, you could go out to the course and generate enough club speed to hit the ball 300 yards. I could hit it that far when I was 16. I could also get in the batting cages when I was in 7th grade and hit 90mph.If you dont have good swing mechanics, you will never do either so you must compare only those who have good mechanics. A baseball is infinately times more difficult to hit than a golf ball due to the speed changes, movement, and even if you hit the ball...you have to get a base hit..meaning you have to avoid 9 players in the field.
