i disagree with said list. humanities degrees are really versatile AND maybe you won't get the most high paying job if you do something that deals directly with your major (which a lot of people in humanities/social sciences don't) but i feel like people actually enjoy what they are studying. like it isn't just mere preparation for a job. i dunno i majored in political science and philosophy. which i agree, maybe not the most useful in terms of jobs that deal directly with your major, but i really liked what i got out of both of them. and i'm pretty sure i'd enjoy studying anything on the list of worthless majors (well maybe not comm or dance)

i have a humanities degree and i support myself just fine by playing music and proofreadingso it's pretty swanky

6/4/2008 3:22:51 PM
i liked my classes. well the upper level ones. all the intro and gen ed classes sucked.
6/4/2008 3:23:32 PM
^^^^ that is a very hipster mindset. Isn't the primary reason you go to college supposed to be preparation for getting a job?[Edited on June 4, 2008 at 3:26 PM. Reason : .]
6/4/2008 3:26:12 PM
gen ed sucksbut even the intro classes i had were pretty good aside from the whiny engineers and business majors who complained about having to write so muchwith that said, i took intro classes that i didn't know much about, like west african lit, and i also skipped freshman english so there was no tedious bullshit ^ you go to college to learn. learning != preparing for a job. it can be both, but they're not the same thing. ]
6/4/2008 3:26:38 PM
horticulturist and forestry students can be pretty worthless if all they do is work at starbucks, attempt to start their own floral conservancy initiatives and break out massive plant identification guides and key random plants during inappropriate times...like during weddings and in malls

if you are going to college just to learn, there are plenty of authors who have went to college for you in the past dont waste your own time[Edited on June 4, 2008 at 3:31 PM. Reason : x]

this is a perfect example of why english majors will always be able to find workpeople can't write to save their lives
6/4/2008 3:32:54 PM
you mean this is why english majors will always have an internet forum to terrorize because their asses will never find a real career, and struggle to hold regular jobs
6/4/2008 3:34:22 PM
i don't need a regular jobi get paid $38 an hour to proofread
6/4/2008 3:34:44 PM
i like to learn therefore i am a hipster. thanks everyone for clearing up my identity problems. well guess i'm off to dye my hair black and....oh yea i have a nose piercing appt at 4. and i still have to read the independent and wash my skinny jeans. what else is on my list? ahhh yes from 6-8 i will be at cup of joe smoking cigarettes and pondering the ways of the world.oh sweet jobless life of a humanities major.

thats the thing, you can find more instances of the stereotype than instances of decent human beings that went through with these shit majorsits like a few boulders in a gravel pit

6/4/2008 3:49:29 PM
^^^^ dude i was replying to your (and the other) remark(s) about being a hipster. that was sarcasm.obviously i majored in humanities (see above), obviously i am happy with that, obviously i am not jobless, and obviously i don't calculate the worth of my degree on salary. oh and obviously i thought your remarks were ignorant and idiotic which was supposed to be conveyed by sarcasm. but i guess that is something that is only taught in worthless majors. what i meant was that people who like to learn or who appreciate their degree for more than the X salary it brings in do not = hipsters.[Edited on June 4, 2008 at 3:50 PM. good post tsalvaive learned very little sittin at a desk, at best ive only been interested in what a prof merely touches on and research it on my own, most of you fuckin ass holes get your good grades by bitching to professors about how you b+ should be an A and askin for extra time to get shit done if i missed a project, fuck it. if i got a c+ or a low b, fuck it im not gonna be some asshole all up in a professors face, i take the grade i earn i know how hard i worked on it (or didnt) i just manned up and took my gradeno i didnt do extra credit either, i didnt feel there was any benefit to doing it just to bolster my gradeif i was interested in the point of the assignment i just...fuckin read about it yall fuckers get these great grades by just pimpin the system and playin the game, i mean shit and it works in the real world to but the difference is in the real world you get paid for it and in college your payin these fuckheads to teach you how to cut corners [Edited on June 4, 2008 at 4:05 PM.
