They seem to be the 2 companies I hear the least complaints about as far as cell phones go.

another example of cell phone quality. I'm upgrading in the next month or so and was looking at various phones. The moto q appealed to me. then I look at the alltel version and see it's half as good and looks shitty compared to every other carrier's moto q.alltel versionverizon version

i know that verizon is notorious for DISABLING key features on a lot of their phones. (bluetooth file transfer was disabled on my old phone at verizon)

^^ they are two different versions however, but i understand what you are saying

^^Smath, Alltel is doing the same thing now. At my place, one of the girls has an Alltel plan that is still under contract. She broke her phone and went and paid full retail to get the LG Scoop (the one nonsmartphone with a QWERTY keyboard) and has noticed the exact same shit was disabled as the Verizon phones. My other coworker finally got out of contract with US Cellular and switched to Alltel. He got the Samsung Glyde. Both phones have mp3s as ringtones disabled. The only way you can do a ringtone on either phone is by purchasing a ringtone. I have an older PPC6700 and can do all this with no issue, and my old LG-8100 phone does it as well. Apparently this is a new development with both companies, and Alltel was expanding their disabling techniques. So regardless of the merger, Alltel customers were going to get the shaft on that.As for roaming out of state, that was probably because you had an Alltel Regional plan. Those will basically roam out of NC or SC. Alltel also has the local plans, so they have many of options. Alltel has coverage in those areas out of your area, they are just hitting you up for roaming charges because you have a cheap ass plan. If they switch you to Verizon and do not alter the plans at all, the only option is a Nationwide plan. They do not do local or regional plans at all. I think this is why they have the rep as a "more expensive" company. They simplify the plans, but it also gives you a little less choice for a cheaper plan if you do not travel. As a salesperson, its really nice to just say "Here is the plan, and here is the prices. No local/regional bullshit, its all included"

no matter what carrier you use, the moto Q is a piece of shit

alltel has picture messaging disabled on the q, which is stupid. they just want to FORCE you to buy a data plan to be able to EMAIL pictures, and then you have to know the email addy to the person's phone that you are sending it to in order for them to get, and then they might not get that. as far as emailing to normal email addresses it works fine.

i didn't realize alltel had crippled anything anymore...after the alltel/verizon fiasco with the moto v710 (great capabilities were advertised and nearly all of were disabled), i thought they'd pretty much given upas i mentioned in the other thread, i've got the z6m rokr, and NOTHING is disabledbefore that i have the nokia 6255i, and i could easily upload and play java games on it (this was back in the day when that was like whoa!)

I never thought I would say this but Sprint FTW

This might suck for me.

If they take away my 10 mycircle #'s I'm gonna burn their fucking headquarters down.
6/6/2008 12:07:06 PM
seedless, thats not alltel blocking pic mail on the Q, thats how Windows Mobile works. In fact, the only PDA's (I'm pretty sure) that can send normal picture mail are the palms.

I have the BB Pearl (Alltel) and I can't send any pics unless its through my email. Alltel claimed something about how BB's software didn't allow the pictures...I call BS...since it works just fine on AT&T BBs.
6/6/2008 12:26:37 PM
what about that whole "my circle" thing they've got going on? is verizon going to offer that?i think they're trying to catch up to AT&T with being awesome. good luck

^^^^ you are correct, and incorrect at the same time - it ALLTEL's vedrsion of windows mobile, not windows mobile in general. pic sharing on other networks work just fine, as jsnail has said with her bb issue.[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 1:26 PM. Reason : asdfg]
