I don't like it when machines are left sweaty-- but I typically just spray/wipe them down myself anyway just to be sure. I don't like guys or girls with real obvious attitudes in the weight area. I don't like when guys blatantly stare at girls, talk about her when shes working out right next to them (thinking shes listening to her iPod) and crack jokes/laugh.I don't like when people take 1 dumbbell in a pair. Even if you are just using one, take them both

It doesn't really bother me but I just find it funny when I see people spending more socializing than working out. I heard one guy that does this every day talking about how he spent so much time in the gym the day before but all I could think was that he probably only did half an hour of actual lifting compared to the "two hours" he spent there.Something that does kinda annoy me is when kids go in and use machines (this is at the Y and they have junior programs) and do sets of as many as they can because they feel they get better that way. There was a group of 3 boys probably around the age of 12 or 13 the other day using the calf machine. One boy was counting and was up to like 30 and I was wanting to use it because it was the last thing I wanted to do before I left. So I went up to them and said "you know you get a better workout by doing multiple sets and resting your muscles between each one." You know just trying to give him a pointer and to speed him up so I could use it.He told me he did sets of 50 and I was like aw fuck so I asked him if I could cut in real fast so I could go home and he let me.
6/28/2008 9:19:20 PM
doin sets of 50 or even 100 is a valid work outi do those kinds of sets sometimesagain, dont question other peoples workouts, maybe you can take the time to learns something and adapt it into your own[Edited on June 28, 2008 at 9:28 PM. Reason : d]

^^^There arent very many squat racks so just leave them for things that cant be done elsewhere such as squatting, deadlifts or bent over rowsNo curls please. You can do that anywhere, dont take up one few racks
6/28/2008 10:38:58 PM
there is really only one thing that annoys me and it's this guy who will bump the treadmill up to like 8.5 and run for like 20 seconds and then puts his legs on the side while the treadmill is still going that fast. then he jumps back on for another 20 seconds. repeat....over and over again. normally i don't mind unless he's on a treadmill right next to me. if he is, then its super annoying because i start focusing on him and not on running.also, when the gym allows the broughton atheltic team go in and work out. OMG....it's mostly the girls. they don't know how to use the machines and they just kind of stand around. [Edited on June 28, 2008 at 11:36 PM. Reason : add]

the women who are running on the treadmill full speed when i get on and are still running the same speed when i leave 40 minutes later

haha

anyone else besides me get starred at for running over 9+ mph on the treadmill? Not that its that fast i just like to do 1 mintue at like 4mph then 1 at 11 mph.[Edited on June 28, 2008 at 11:41 PM. Reason : mph]
6/28/2008 11:41:00 PM
i do that at the end if i'm on a treadmill...go at like 7mph for 20-30 min and then like a final minute of 11-12
6/28/2008 11:42:34 PM
i think i'll just stay away from the gym
6/28/2008 11:43:38 PM
I saw one chick eat it on a treadmill in the new gym complex. It was funny as hell. I tried so hard not to laugh.

aaprior: well i really have no idea where you work out so i cant say for sure. my usual gyms have 2 squat racks, so thats not a ton of space for squatting, dl'ing, bent over rows, all that crap. there are e-z curl bars or basic dumbbells for curls. you can add as much weight as you want. i guess my thing is when im waiting around for a squat rack while people are curling light weights (no meathead, just that they can get the same weight 8 other ways in the gym). its fine if the gym is pretty empty but people are often doing the curl thing in the squat rack during peak hours

people who put the plates on wrong...people who move too much to gain momentum & cheat the lift ( dude you'll build muscles faster doing less weight right)
6/29/2008 12:41:10 AM
yeah guys i used to live with would kinda do that.. they'd always bounce the bar off their chest with amounts they'd never be able to do if they did right
6/29/2008 12:46:11 AM
I forgot one-----Guys who bench press with their back arched 12 inches in the air off the bench Thats a miserable back injury waiting to happen.

6/29/2008 3:56:48 AM
^^ But, I want the Olympic bar. If I don't want to use the EZ bar (which only goes up to 60lbs at my gym) thats my choice. BTW, I workout around 12 o'clock noon. Theres never anyone in the gym, so my improper squat-rack etiquette goes completely unnoticed [Edited on June 29, 2008 at 3:58 AM. Reason : Duke]
6/29/2008 3:57:57 AM
you could always let someone work in, anyway. not that big of a deal if you don't have any other options.
6/29/2008 3:59:21 AM
Watched a guy that gym today doing some sort of crazy pull on the lat pulldown machine where he would throw his whole body back to lift the weight. It was quite lol to watch.
6/29/2008 7:43:09 AM
Two things...well, three things that I personally don't like. The last one can't really be changed, it just gets on my nerves.1) There is a trainer at my gym where I think half of his job is to converse with his client. The training sessions last about an hour and 45 minutes with the actually working out taking up about 45 minutes. And they are ALWAYS using the machines/benches/whatever that I want to use next.2) People who circuit or are doing two or three exercises at the same time, and insist on having all the machines/apparatuses to themselves. I workout like this, but I always let people work in with me when I'm not doing one of the other exercises...mostly because I feel bad about taking up more than one machine at a time. 3) This one there really is no solution to...but I can't stand it when one person is doing like 5 different exercises on one machine...mainly the squat rack or cross cable machine. So they stay at the machine for like 45 minutes. I can't get mad because they are doing their workout, doing different exercises, and probably not talking or wasting time. But come on man, pick some different exercises that don't keep you on the same fucking machine for my whole workout. Even when I might do two consecutive exercises on the cross cable machine, I at least try to hurry it up and get out of there because I feel bad for taking up the machine for more than one exercise.
6/29/2008 9:38:45 AM
i never liked circuit training i don't know why...I like to work a muscle till it will no longer move.. then go to the nextPeople that plan on taking "substantial recovery time" need to let others work in.... its stupid for you to just sit on something.i hate the trainers at my gym too.. they take too long on every piece of equipment and will not let others work in @ all. ohh and if the next piece of equipment they want their client to use opens up mid set... they'll go hold that one too. assfaces.[Edited on June 29, 2008 at 9:47 AM. The only thing that really bothers me is when my routine gets disturbed. And even that's not a big deal, there are other machines I can use. But when people sit on one of my machines for 30 minutes not working out that kind of bothers me. That or they are using the machine improperly and I go to correct them and they get all insulted.

Honestly, none of this stuff bothers me. If it affects my actual workout at all, it's very rare... and not a big deal.I go workout, maybe play some basketball... and then leave. The biggest thing in the world that annoys me is fat people... and seeing fat people at the gym is a good thing, because maybe they'll be less fat eventually...As far as locations... I live in CA... but need to find a gym when I move back to NC so I wouldn't mind seeing some suggestions.[Edited on June 29, 2008 at 12:30 PM. Reason : moving back to raleigh, to be specific]
