lambaste America and CNN all you want, but a pretty decent article was presented recently on there. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/10/beck.rightwithamerica/index.html?iref=newssearchI personally like the southpark episode where Cartman goes back in time to the founding fathers and finds out that America is great b/c the pussies are allowed to bitch while the assholes run things and protect everyone (also from Team America) While we have many faults, capitalism allows us to work ridiculously hard and make a shit ton of money and your own personal efforts are potentially rewarded. Religious freedom makes it where we can be Muslim catholic protestant Jewish or Jehovah's witness and still own property and keep our lives (and wives in some states). Freedom of speech allows us to speak our minds without fear of reprisal and bitch about anything and everything. And our government is founded on the fact that EVERYBODY is corrupt so have checks and balances in place to keep things headed in the right direction. We're lazy and eat like shit and because we're dependent on wide open spaces and want 2 ton vehicles to carry 1 kid to soccer and back... But we're not all that way, it WILL come into check. Look at the mid 70's auto market, it's EXACTLY like it is today... American auto companies were building bigger gas guzzling cars and suddenly the small crappy Japanese cars that got absurd gas millage comparatively were suddenly all the rage (CVCC todays civic)... ironically the honda's have gotten over sized also... I think the gas prices will help America retrain it's course towards localized food(the Irish I hang out with up here complain about the poor quality of American produce which is because it's shipped across the entire country for months), the willingness to walk 2 miles to get somewhere and better public transportation...We're ALLOWED to question anything and anyone which promotes free thinking. It's our freedom of speech and general "we can do anything" mentality that propel our ingenuity. As much shit as America represents and as much as we've screwed up... We're still vastly on top of many things. One very eye opening thing to do is go to a different area of the country and see how DIFFERENT things are in that area. Then consider that america is essentially the same size as ALL of Europe...Hard work... it goes a long way.[Edited on July 16, 2008 at 2:14 AM.
