i think i only have one or two friends close enough that they'd want me in their weddingi think i'll have a little conversation with them and explain that they shouldn't expect me to be in their wedding if they do this

thats out of controlweddings in general are expensive as fuck. makes me question if i even want one or if i want to go elope on a vacation and put the money toward something we can enjoy for years to come.i seriously try wrapping my mind around spending $25k (the cost of an average wedding with a lot of do it yourself stuff) in ONE day and i can never make sense of it. i can hardly imagine $10k. $5k is more my speed and even that seems better spent somewhere else.[Edited on July 16, 2008 at 7:31 PM. two of my best friends got married at the courthouse, i was the photographer* (using the term very loosely here)knowing i have to pay for my own wedding makes me not want one. but if someone else insisted on paying i'm sure i could come up with the time to plan something reasonable. but as it stands, i'd rather save for other shit besides a wedding.i think some people do it for the presents. i dont even need that shit, my whole place is already fully furnished and functional

first off how old is your friend and his fiance? What kind of jobs do they have do the groomsmen have similar jobs. Basically it comes down to a decision do you tell your friend in his wedding because the cost is too high. Are you having to travel for this wedding. Are you staying in a hotel for one night, the whole weekend? Its a lot of money and a pretty big ripoff to expect to get that tux. See if you can get a look at the style of the tux and just rent the pants and jacket and shoes from Mens Wearhouse get the shirt/vest/tie from the place he is renting the tux. Having been in 3 weddings 2 were Tuxes and 1 was a suit it is a bit of a burden but if you talk to your friend since he is your "Boy" that this is a big expense he may understand. Luckily my friends had some backbone to their fiances and told them what they were renting and both of mine were less than $125 and I already owned a black suit for the suit wedding.I am assuming since the Tuxes are so much than the reception will be quite a blowout open bar and a live band and good food. And chances are the groom is probably getting his Tux for free thats the scam most places run.

hey dont forget the gift!! and if you bring a date, costs just keep going updef tell your friend the cost of the rental is prohibitive to your participation and while you'd love to be in the wedding, you'd also love to eat and pay rent.if he doesnt understand or his future wifey cant make a compromise on the tux, attend the wedding as a guest, bring a gift and wish them well, no need to end a friendship over this (although guys are far less likely than girls to pull this shit-- which is reason #49847584 i stay away from weddings & just send presents)
