i wish they'd put a full blown opiate addict on there just so the mainstream public can see just how evil opiate addiction is. i wanna see the whole 9. the 5-14 day period of muscle spasms, tremors, 6 degree swings in body temperature, throwing up, diarrhea, crying, insomnia, anger, depression, fatigue, etc -- followed by the 2-12 month period of depression and hopelessness, followed by the seemingly never ending process of picking up all the pieces and fixing everything they fucked up while they were using. they should show all that, like start it out with a guy in rehab physcially tied to the bed so he wont jerk and rip the IV that feeds him out of his arm and watching the vomit basically foam up out of his mouth and piss himself for a week straight. then do a documentary of him trying to put his life back together afterwards

i bet if they showed some real addiction it would serve a better purpose... like making people stay away from drugs instead of just trying to entertain them.

i would bet you are exactly right. thats the shit they need to show to middle schoolers instead of DARE.

that brings up an interesting question... assuming they did use the graphic method that i described... at what age do you think it would be appropriate?

basing this off 2 main points - first being "at what age are they old enough to handle seeing such traumatic stuff", and the second (and likely most important) thing being, "at what age will they actually take this information in and fully process it?"

i think that if the government run schools can force kids to take stupid electives, or electives that they could easily take in college (and learn a lot more in one semester) like psychology or sociology... i think they should add a mandatory class to show teenagers the reality of things like AIDS, drunk driving, heroin addiction, prison, sharing needles, rape, pregnancy, smoking cigarettes, taking a gun to a fight, etc. all that shit.

they teach some of that stuff in health class, but they only focus like a week or 2 on the thing. i think this stuff is so important that they should spend a whole semester/year in one class that talks only about the dangers of life.

it would sure beat the hell out of some stupid home economics course. its not the 1950s anymore. haha. if the government is gonna control education, they might as well teach kids about the pitfalls out there. cause all the math in the world doesnt matter if you OD or end up in prison for life or some shit

Your tactic jackleg kind of reminds me of how some Christians scare their victims into following Jesus's principles but I guess it sometimes works. I think anything can be glamorized enough to seem cool afterward. I think if kids just talk to someone like you then they would never want to start using. I don't know what really works being the fact that I have not really ever dealt with drug addiction. The only thing I have ever tried myself was shrooms. Granted my father is an alcoholic that smokes up from time to time and I think that was enough for me to not drink too often.

I think I still would like to try marijuana when it becomes legal next year. jk...marijuana will never be legal.

marijuana has no real withdrawal symptoms fyi so it's kind of a little different category--you can smoke everyday for months and at most have a little trouble sleeping.

but yeah, i think jackleg's idea would work wonders.. as long as they didn't do it in a way that looked fake as hell or anything like that

my mom worked in a hospital when i was growing up and she was very honest with me about drug use. she told me the most horrid stories. she told me marijuana was pretty harmless but everything else was terribly addicting and proceeded to tell me stories about addiction

also watching people use drugs is extremely disturbing to me. smoking weed or cigarettes isnt bad but smoking crack, snorting coke, injecting, huffing etc

ugh it makes my stomach turn to even watch shows that portray those things. i feel lighheaded and nauseated just thinking about it
