I would like to see a politician that was fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I do not like the ultra-conservative social stances that are taken by most Republicans, but I cannot stand the hand-outs and warm fuzzy hugs given out by the Democrats.

I always thought that Democrats + Republicans were based on the fundamental nature of man, inherently evil, that sort of thing.
10/12/2008 12:28:34 AM
I'll tell you how they're fundamentally the sameneither of them give a fuck about letting the American people be free to do what they want morally and economically.
10/12/2008 12:31:09 AM
^ That's a fairly naive perspective. Any group of people will form in to a societal structure that removes their "freedoms." Gov. is inevitable.
10/12/2008 12:33:29 AM
And out of nowhere, Vix may have just won the thread!
10/12/2008 12:33:55 AM
Government is not inevitable. Anarchy is inevitable, government is just the interim solution until our culture acknowledges the obvious failings of a concentration of power.[Edited on October 12, 2008 at 12:36 AM. Reason : you know, I think the repetition of "inevitable" was excessive there]
10/12/2008 12:34:56 AM
^ I disagree, but if I DID agree, i'd say it is cyclical then.Because it just takes one extra-greedy person in a system of anarchy to try and seize control, by force or other means. Similar to communism, really.
10/12/2008 12:36:30 AM
In spite of the economically sensical policies put forth by the Republican party, I will more than likely vote Democratic just to watch capitalism burn to Hell and see the true nature of humans under duress.
10/12/2008 12:39:54 AM
I think there's a critical mass where distribution of power in a free market can prevent the centralization of power in a government. I believe that's the ideal, because while most definitely corruption and exploitation can occur in the free market, if the market is essentially free, the pendulum will always swing the other way, with a minimum of bloodshed, and on a time scale that is orders of magnitude more rapid than established government. Governments are lethargic, lack motivation, while revolutions are bloody.[Edited on October 12, 2008 at 12:44 AM. Reason : .]
10/12/2008 12:43:19 AM
So are you saying that a system where change is swift but bloodless can't exist, or its just not worth finding that system?
