Preparing twitter/facebook stats for a social media presentation.
8/17/2009 3:18:05 PM
^ lol, I do that too
8/17/2009 3:18:25 PM
I would like to win said vacation giveaway contest...
8/17/2009 3:19:17 PM
Work is so hard. My boss doesn't really get facebook, so she thinks I'm a genius because of my social media "expertise".Like when I told her that if she rejected a friend request, that the friend wouldn't necessarily know. She was shocked. ^ It involves owning a timeshare, so you may not want to win said contest. But here's another good contest to enter, if you like Starpoints:http://www.starwoodglobaladventures.com/[Edited on August 17, 2009 at 3:23 PM. Reason : .]

continental corporate has a job opening in houston for a social media expert. i wanted to apply so bad!!
8/17/2009 3:23:06 PM
Continental Airlines? Too bad it's in Houston.
8/17/2009 3:23:46 PM
i would do it for less than what i make now, just for the airline perks. would be totally worth it. maybe i'll apply for shits and giggles to see how much they pay for that sort of thing
8/17/2009 3:24:48 PM
You should definitely apply Holly.Although you never really tweet.
8/17/2009 3:27:27 PM
I may not be a janitor much longer son. I'm excited!
8/17/2009 3:27:53 PM
Maybe $50k to $75k?Then again, the airline industry is struggling a bit these days. There's no telling. The benefits in hospitality/travel are awesome. With hotels, most major companies offer 2 full weeks of vacation prior to the first full year of service, and 3 full weeks of vacation after a full year of service. That ain't bad.
8/17/2009 3:28:07 PM
I get 5 weeks of vacation in my new job, same as what I got when coming out of school though. No fun perks like hotel discounts though.
8/17/2009 3:31:27 PM
a lot of public affairs firms in DC are hiring social media directors and even making them VP type positions. it's crazy, but at the same time you really have to understand how to implement a targeted strategy across multiple platforms, integrate it and generally still interface with the rest of the public affairs efforts. it's not like "oh i can use facebook REALLY well lol" and you're hired.
8/17/2009 3:32:24 PM
^^ I'm jealous! I get 5 weeks of PTO, but only 3 weeks are designated as vacation time. The other days are sick days and personal days. How many of those do you get?
8/17/2009 3:34:12 PM
I think it's all out of the same bucket. That + 10 corporate holidays.
8/17/2009 3:35:08 PM
Good deal, sounds similar to my deal, though we get one week less in our first year.Weird thing is, last year I had more vacation time than I do this year. I was a contractor and took off ten days to go to Costa Rica. Then I was offered a full-time gig in May. Since our PTO calendar resets on January 1 of each year, I ended up taking 6 weeks off last year on top of our holidays.
8/17/2009 3:39:33 PM
yeah my experience with social networks goes as far as facebooking a lot and shit like that. i've never implemented any sort of campaign or event shit using social networking. i also have no experience in the service industry.
8/17/2009 3:41:39 PM
You don't want to know
8/17/2009 3:43:27 PM
this is still chit chat right?i want to be the first to make a joke regarding ncsuwolfy in the service industrybut it's not comming to meha
8/17/2009 3:43:33 PM
How about: "I can offer you experience in the service industry."

Ahaha. That reminds me of the reporter who could never remember how to copy and paste.I was assigned as her producer and I spent at least an hour each day keeping her wardrobe appropriate, as she liked to unbutton her blouses a little too low.

I design and build those waterjet robots, so occasionally we have to run a prototype in the field. The most recent is a concrete mixer drum cleaner. Its easy to snag the boom in the drum if you aren't careful, and rocks come zinging out of the ass of the truck at break-skin velocity. Luckilly I can sometimes duck behind a lexan shield. This is the efflux from a 15,000 psi @50 gal/min water jet pump. Its so loud you hear it echoing like a gunshot through the trees when it turns off. The velocity and sheer quantity of water creates a tornado-like fountain of death with close to 200lbs of thrust. This pump is usually used for powerplant steam pipe millscale removal and other industrial pipe cleaning. It will fracture solid concrete if the nozzle is within a couple inches...Thats not enough power when the nozzle may be FEET away, so we borrowed this 20,000 psi, 50 gpm pump. Its normally used for bridge deck rehabilitation where a crawler robot removes all of the concrete from the deck, leaving the rebar intact for a repour. It is a large unit with a sequential turbo cummins 6 cylinder producing around 600hp. The concrete EXPLODES out of the way of the water stream. It took us only a short time to clean a 'full load' of 7 yards out of a 11 yard truck.Concrete mixer poop...Boss man and me by a big loose pile[Edited on August 18, 2009 at 5:26 PM. Reason : d]

Dustm: your job looks like funToday at work, I attended a 4-hour potluck lunch. I brought bourbon banana pudding.
8/18/2009 10:34:53 PM
that ought to have made things more interestingdepending of course on when the alcohol was added
8/19/2009 12:08:30 AM
The bourbon was served as a chaser to the banana pudding.Today I'm recruiting for a charity bike ride in February. Tour de Cure!

i have tons, because I work for a pretty wild place.but my newest thing is that i'm taking on some 'job skills training'... i have interns from ECPI that i've been using, but there's this new program we do where we help re-integrate non felons just released from prison.so ive been training ex-convicts how to install Windows XP, test power supplies, all sorts of random shit like that... that's pretty fun. one of my guys shot his brother in law with a shotgun. when he takes 30 minute bathroom breaks, i don't question him
9/2/2009 8:29:36 AM
^ Self-defense? Or because he's crazy?I once worked at a restaurant where we hired prisoners on work release. Some were rapists, armed robbers, etc. You kind of learn to give space when needed.
9/2/2009 8:34:00 AM
I just smile and say "that's nice"
9/2/2009 10:13:19 AM
