that poster is a little misleading, it suggests that the Iraq war (and all wars) are responsible for the debt but in actuality the Bush Tax Cuts (2001) are what caused the debt. Even with the Iraq war, if we had not made the tax cuts or even reinstated them in 2004, the Bush administration would have had a surplus.

Most modern democracies take in about 23% of their GDP through taxes, we take in less than 18%. The fastest way to get out of the recession is to raise taxes (nobody wants to hear that) to about the 23% mark and cut back on social programs.
