Some people live in a fairy tale I guess. People will kill you and crazy people running around on the highway screaming are more likely to try to do so IMO. I mean, it's just something you'll have to weigh for yourself I guess. Is it worth it to get out of your vehicle when someone you don't even know is approaching your vehicle offensively? Do you know if they're armed? If they pull a gun and you've exited your vehicle, what is your next move? Was a gun on your person? Say they pulled a gun or other weapon and you managed to shoot them, what is the jury going to say about you getting out and engaging the individual when you "had an opportunity to flee"? He was on foot, you were in a vehicle, he wasn't engaged in an argument with you, etc. You have to make this decision in seconds or less, but the court will have far more time to think about it and consider your actions. Staying in the vehicle and not talking to the person has the highest probability at least of allowing you to demonstrate that you did not wish to engage the individual. That's my point here. As soon as you open your mouth and start to get out of your car, you've aggravated them and it's no longer going to be considered a purely self defense scenario in most cases.Knowingly placing yourself in such situations is risky, that's all I'm saying. I believe most of the time it will turn out ok for you, but not always. ]

(This is why I asked instead of stating outright whether or not you had a firearm son.)I doubt you have a CC permit based on the actions, but perhaps you do? I mean, I suggest people carry with or without the permit. Carrying without it just requires different methods of carry and is more annoying in some cases. But that CC course does at least force people to learn the specific laws in this state regarding self defense, which are ass backwards in some cases and rather situation dependent.^ Browning Hi-Power son ]

I own several firearms but I do not have a CC permit. It's something I have wanted to get for a while now, but just haven't gotten around to it.

so is saab turbo saying he would have done nothing in the situation?
9/24/2009 5:35:53 PM
Not necessarily, it's something you need to weigh. If he's doing no harm and just making noise, no need to do much. In fact, and I want to make this very clear, it is rarely advisable to intervene in any kind of altercation you do not fully understand. I mean, if you do not know the people involved, don't fuck with it for the most part unless you are DAMN SURE of what is happening. You can intervene in some unusual things by accident (Confusing undercover police for attackers, etc) and end up getting ass raped by the legal system. If your actions result in anyone being injured, you may now be held accountable! Say he dragged her out of the car, at that point and in this specific case, sure you should probably help. But in most cases, intervening in something is not in your best interest. The two parties may know eachother, there may be some previous event that has caused what is going on and you cannot be aware of this. You may accidentally kill the good guy in such scenarios. In general, you do not want to fuck with situations you aren't involved in from a legal point of view. The gun is to protect you only really. Hell, remember that deal where that man shot and killed this guy he found fucking his wife, because his wife screamed "rape" when he walked in on them, and it turned out to be totally consensual? In general, don't fuck with situations you don't understand. It can turn out very badly. ]

It wasn't my intention to fight the dude, i just felt it necessary to call him out for being an ultimate douchebag and scaring the shit out of 2 old defenseless people.Only when he started to approach my car was I prepared to defend myself.[Edited on September 24, 2009 at 5:41 PM. Reason : a]

saab raises some good points
9/24/2009 5:43:49 PM
^^ Yeah, I'm not saying it was terrible and all this stuff. I'm just saying, analyze the situation and consider how you could have approached it better next time. Just learn from it, these types of experiences can teach you a LOT in my opinion. I'm not saying I've never been a dumbass myself. It's much easier to sit here and say "you should have done this." That's why I said you have to make these decisions in seconds, but after it's over everyone has all the time in the world to second guess your actions. ]

i totally agree with everything you are saying. i just don't think like that i guess.
