After living in durham for a year, I don't think I would move back to Raleigh/Cary. I was absolutely certain I would move back after my wife finished residency at UNC, but I really like it here. The only thing I hate about durham is that it's full of UNC fans.

Downtown isn't so bad. The City government has done something really good, and important to maintain positive growth in the downtown area (the Unified Development Ordinance)But having lived here as a kid, and again now later on in life... I still don't think anything outside of Cary Parkway should be considered Cary proper. Those freaking golf course 'neighborhoods' give the town a bad name.
10/21/2009 8:19:11 AM
There is a really big difference between the Cary inside Cary Pkwy, and the Cary outside Cary PkwyI'd like to think that most people who have big problems with Cary and the relocated people are thinking about the later. Those are your golf course communities, and your yuppy-suburbias. The older parts of Cary are great.
10/21/2009 8:43:32 AM
I judge Cary based on the morons I interact with. According to those interactions, Cary sucks.
10/21/2009 8:56:37 AM
there is a reason why no one can find anything in Cary and why people think it's hard to drive around in (crappy layout of roads partly), it's mostly because it all looks the same, from every angle from every direction, shit looks the same...
10/21/2009 9:34:08 AM
does lochmere count as cary proper? it's right next to cary parkway...
10/21/2009 9:58:37 AM
cary is nice if you are age 0-18 or 30+
10/21/2009 10:36:13 AM
Lived in cary my whole life but always attended school in Raleigh... I couldn't imagine going to school with the type of stuck up fuckers in my neighborhood... then when it came time to go to high school I went to broughton and found out about the whole itb thing... enough said.Though I do enjoy driving back home on cary parkway getting off of US-1, I find it pleasant compared to the area around NCSU. But yeah cary truly is devoid of culture. Freaking town ordinances and home owners associations completely limit personal liberties when it comes to your own property.

having loops streets is part of being confusing. streets should go straight and form grids.
10/21/2009 1:13:48 PM
In carys defense. It does not look all the same. Infact its looks nothing like all the othe highway towns in cities in NC. By this I mean a town that is off a major road. They are usually two roads or strips that have everything the po dunk town has to offer. If this was as painful to read as it was to write I'm sorry I want to go to sleep.
10/21/2009 1:22:01 PM
Why are you comparing the 7th most populated city in NC with tiny 2 road towns?
10/21/2009 1:25:59 PM
^^^are you one of those idiots who hates the beltline cause you cant figure it outif youre gonna hate on cary provide a legit reason, complaining about the layout and lack of huge signs is just a cop-out.

I've lived in Dunn, NCMilan, ItalyMunich, Germany (briefly)ManhattanRaleighand finally Cary. That being said they each have their own charms.Personally, I like Cary.My neighborhood is mostly retired grandparents with killer stories. I would love to move to Augusta one day. just fyi.[Edited on October 21, 2009 at 2:43 PM. Reason : ]

Lots of neighborhoods in Cary don't have ordinances or home owner's associations. And the town ordinances that actually affect a residential dwelling are very very few.Off the top of my head, I can only think of the sign ordinance.

10/21/2009 3:23:15 PM
So what specific rights do you have problems with Cary infringing on? My family has been in Cary for a long time in multiple houses and I can't recall once having issues with personal property and the Town of Cary.
10/21/2009 3:39:42 PM
i heard Cary won't let Joie have a flamingo in her front yard, but she does it anyways.the rebel
10/21/2009 3:46:37 PM
hahahahah actually ive heard they won't let you have one.i don't know for a fact.but its been up for over a year now and i still havent heard a peep.David Bowden stole my thunder [Edited on October 21, 2009 at 3:55 PM. Reason : jkk]

It's seriously not that difficult
10/21/2009 7:23:34 PM
^^Well, I'm sorry you're too stupid to figure out things like basic directions or headings. I pray you never have to go somewhere that has both a Pine Street and a Pine Drive near each other, you might shit yourself with panic.
10/21/2009 7:29:04 PM
I'm sorry you can't navigate two roads in cary (maynard... and cary pkwy is a semi loop)
10/21/2009 8:17:45 PM
^^^^You're seriously too stupid to drive in a circle? That's too hard for you? Its your own fucking fault you can't find your way around, not the towns.

^^dumb people have to stick together you knowit's not like us smart people are going to be their friends
10/21/2009 9:03:43 PM
by looks all the same, i meant that most roads in cary look like every other freakin road in cary, it becomes difficult to tell which intersection you are at or approaching unless you're very familiar with it.outside of downtown durham (which at least is varied, and has landmarks) i've heard the most complaints about cary in terms of difficulty in getting around
10/21/2009 9:15:39 PM
^^ hahayea you can count on mamba to bring the stupid to almost every thread^ you jumping on the mamba bandwagon. unless you are in preston, cary looks WAY different at every intersection you go to.[Edited on October 21, 2009 at 9:24 PM. Reason : you people]

10/21/2009 10:33:51 PM
Obviously, if you live in Cary or are from there, Its easy for you to get around and also very easy to notice minute differences in features without using landmarks or signs as landmarks. Congradualations, you won. Now please get over yourself. This is not just friends but anytime a raleigh event is held at a place in cary that isn't right off the highway, all hell breaks loose and almost everyone at the event (friends or people i've never met before) can relate.
10/21/2009 10:41:49 PM
then you know a lot of stupid fucking people who need to learn to gps, map, google map, find the north star, or whatever else you can do to figure out where you're going before you start driving

I love Cary. I was born in Chapel Hill, but have lived most of my life in this town. My family owns a few homes spread out over Cary. Why leave? People can hate all they want, but it's a great location with a lot of money as well. Real estate in Cary is a gold mine.
10/21/2009 11:17:37 PM
there was a major meeting of banking industry giants last week in caryCNBC covered it all weekwe're famous

10/21/2009 11:58:43 PM
it is not hard to navigate around Cary...that's not the issueit IS hard to make good time through Cary, because there are tons of stupid soccer moms driving slow as fuck and, if the road is two-lane, driving slow as fuck in the fast lanethe street-setup is fine...there's just too many people and too many of 'em are stupid/inconsiderate

10/22/2009 5:40:20 AM
theres also the gay ass cary cops who are always bored after they bust up the local high school meeting at the waffle house. they will pull you for 5 over just to have the chance to bother you. i hate cary
10/22/2009 5:47:01 AM
My experience with Cary cops has been rather mixed. I got pulled over coming back with some friends late at night after seeing Lord of the Rings in the theater (OMG a car full of teenagers! They must be up to no good!). I've been pulled over on my bicycle while carrying my saxophone, my backpack and two band uniforms after a football game (OMG he's carrying things. He must be up to no good!). But then my high school chica and I got busted making out in the parking lot in my car and the Cary cop was really cool about it and was trying to keep from laughing at how embarrassed we were.

Cary cops are just bored. When you patrol one of the safest cities in the state, you need things to fill the time.
10/22/2009 9:05:12 AM
^ Seriously? Raleigh is so lackadaisical about speed enforcement that the NandO did a whole investigative report about it a year or two back.
