It was described in a book I read called They're Not Your Friends. Basically, it occurs when a female meets another female for the first time, they check each other out head-to-toe (what brands you're wearing, if you look well put together, etc) and judge them based on that.

I know I do it sometimes, but not to that degree. Usually when I see another tall girl, I give her the once over and compare my body to her's.

Sounds like an interesting read. I'll suggest that for my book club.

I do something similar at the gym. I compare my workout to the girls around me at the gym. If they're working out harder than me, then I tend to bump it up a notch or two. Mostly bc I don't want to look like a slacker.
