continuing to post in this thread probably makes my sexuality suspect, but this is something i've done in the past:

get a meaningful picture with you and the the person receiving the gift. something with a back-story or shared experience. then you can write a little poem or reflection on that time (or the person in general). worst case you can copy some shit off the internet if you are that unimaginative. put it in a frame and get it all pretty.

kind of like this:

(except obviously not about your pets )

The cookie tin is always a good choice. My German grandmother always makes the best cookie tins

Always love opening one up and seeing what's inside.

how about writing on a piece of paper how much you like the person
that would be nice, you could even put it in a jar

i use to make something like this, called marble magnets just for fun with the kids i babysat. but you could make great gifts out of them also.

like this :

google image search marble magnets and youll find a bunch of cute ideas,

all you need is clear craft glue, magazines, magnets, and scissors
<--- this one has the same kind of bags NCSUWolfy used to package hers

ive always used a decorated altoid tin to have the kids gift them to someone in

^^ i like those. those are actually really pretty!

i think these homemade wine racks out of tin cans are cool. these don't look as cool as i envision i'd make one though. i would want to make it look less junky but i think they are still really cool. all you need are tin cans and STRONG glue!

plus with different sized cans you could make a lot of unique shapes

you can also do a lot with empty wine bottles. vases and lamps and stuff. some requires cutting glass (EEEEK) but some doesn't. you can paint (or just decorate) wine bottles and just stick christmas lights in them either to make a unique cool looking light (someone made one for us once)

I've got 8 jars of this
and then some of this

and some canned apple pie filling that I'll package with streusel topping and baking directions

I will probably do up an approximation of this "Desert Tea" drink mix that I got last year at the Grand Canyon (the base is cider, tang, and cinnamon, and I've just about fine-tuned all the other ingredients) and give that to the people I know who like it.

I might make bacon jam - what say TWW? Yay/nay?

I've been saving soap slivers and will reform it all into handmade soap. For some masculine bars, I'm gonna add some cedar oil, and for some of the girly bars, I'll add oatmeal to them.

And of course, the frame-one-of-my-pictures gifts

oh yeah
a fuckton of breads and cookies

i did the marble magnets too, i just forgot about them

and the altoid tin as a gift box is awesome, i think i wanted to do that but didn't know how i wanted to decorate them.

maybe i'll do this next year. i already did all my shopping so i'm done for now

it should be noted that magnet space on refrigerators has decreased dramatically with the growing popularity of stainless steel appliances. you can only use the sides!

my mom found the teacups in this little house in Goldsboro that said "antiques." She got 6 sets for only $10

I made the bath salts using essential oil (I ordered mine off amazon), food coloring, glycerin, and epsom salts:

- 3 drops yellow food coloring, 2 drops red
- 1 tbs glycerin
- 1 packet epsom salts
- a few drops essential oil... I pretty much just shook the thing til it smelled good enough

I only had a certain type of jar for the bath salts and I underestimated the amount of wax I needed for the teacup candles. I gave bmel one of the teacup candles though and I'm actually happy with the way they turned out... because they're lower they make a pretty glow (which I guess they would have done anyways once they burned down, but oh well, I didn't feel like spending another $10 on wax just to top them off)

Oh and the candles are raspberry scented

I didn't really expect anyone to try to read the ingredients....

^ The only expensive thing was the glycerin - $15!! I had to get a 16 oz bottle though because that's all they had..

I put everything in a big mixing bowl and after everything was all blended, spread the stuff out on a pan covered in a flattened paper bag. I let them dry while I mixed up the next batch, then I used to bag to make a funnel and pour them into the jar

^2 I know, just answering why they looked a little jipped - I thought 1 lb of wax would've been enough for 6 little teacups then I was filling them up and was like oh shit 2 of them look normal but 4 of them are lacking. At least they smell like raspberries!

^

Oh and I'm making a recipe book for my bff... That seems to be taking the most time.

twoozles -- If you're really interested in the bath salts idea, they were by far the easiest one to do. It took me less than an hour to do all 6 jars.
