HOAs suck, that's it. And trying to get bylaws changed is often difficult. Such as where my parents live... there are a few assholes that love to abuse the power of the HOA and for some reason many people on the street are afraid to go against these assholes... they were probably threatened somehow. HOAs suck, they, IMO, infringe on personal property rights, and shouldn't be allowed to do so.

I agree that HOAs typically do more harm than good. But technically, they are governing for the people by the people. And the typical stance by people who support them would say "If you don't like it then run for the board, elect board members that better suit your interests, or move"

yeh... but my mom is now the president and is powerless because of the few assholes who refuse to cooperate.

and the move if you don't like it excuse isn't always valid. if you were there before the HOA or if the HOA changed drastically are two cases where the move option is BS

"Other's call in multiple times a day with complaints such as "my neighbor's car has a doghnut tire on his car and shouldn't be allowed to park that in his driveway" and "I can see my neighbor's garden hose from my porch, can you please ask them to move it to the garage"."

The problem is that people hate confrontation and will try to mitigate it at all costs. Instead of neighbors asking neighbors to clean up their place, offering to help one another, or even asking one another for help we've got this made-up middle man to do the dirty work for some people.

Then you get people like this. It's inevitable and it will divide neighbors.

The HOA should be dissolved or limited to what it can and cannot do.

More HOA shit:

Quote :
"ANTIOCH, Tenn.- Some people in a Nashville neighborhood are furious over a new rule that makes it illegal to own a gun.

Residents in Nashboro Village said it's unconstitutional and leaves them defenseless.

Two weeks ago, residents received a letter from their homeowners' association indicating that guns are not allowed on the property.

"It thought it was ironic that they say you can't have something when the United States government says you can," said resident Cristina Salajanu.

. . .

Officials with Ghertner and Company, the property manager at Nashboro Village, would not make an on-camera comment about the gun policy but said they plan on changing the rule soon to allow firearms on the property.

However, they would make it illegal to fire those guns, which residents say is still unconstitutional.

Neighbors said they understand the gun rule is meant to keep criminals out of Nashboro Village but they don't believe that prohibiting firearms is the best way to do that."

If they're in city limits, it is probably already quite illegal to discharge a firearm.

"^ yea, it sucks.

this organization http://www.honorflight.org/ started bringing vets to the WWII memorial in DC for day trips, so they could see the memorial before they died.

i've been at national airport when they've come in - pretty amazing"

my dad and i volunteered to escort the vets on this trip 2 summers ago, we left from greenville, nc flew a 737 up to reagan national and went over to the memorial for a few hours. It was simply amazing listening to their stories, and listening to them comparing tales and what not.
