V yep. If you started out with beaters and didn't have anyone buying you cars, it's easier to go through a few.

If you start with a nicer/newer car, it's not as big a deal. If you start with an older one and trade up the number is going to be higher. My first car was given to me and my parents helped pay for the second (though the thing only cost me 1800 anyway), the others I've bought on my own. But of the 6 cars I've had, 2 cost under 1000, 4 under 3000, and only the current one was over $10K.

yea i guess that makes sense ^

my parents gave me my first car (well technically it is still owned by my dad and they just allowed me to use it, but i'm hoping when i graduate law school it will become MINE for reals) and i plan on keeping it as long as i can!! it is a honda - wasn't new when i got it but i mean, its definitely done well and has a lot of life left in it!

I was wondering the same thing! My two cars both cost less than $1500. I don't know how I could have afforded a greater frequency of cars

my first car was bought from inheritance money back in 2000, then my mom's car started having issues in 2007 and I had just gotten a job out of college, so i gave her my car and i started financing a new car

I explained a little earlier, but here are more details for khcadwal's curiosity.

Vehicle; Cost; more detailed reason for getting rid of it.

1986 B2000; 400 initial, 300 for used engine off the bat; flipped it into a ditch on a wet road when I was 16.

1979 Jeep Wagoneer; FREE from my brother; we just parked it, still have it actually (earlier I said sold, but I saw it tonight.)

1991 Firebird; FREE, again from my brother, only drove it for about 6 months while he was in BCT/AIT for the Army; he decided to sell it after he got back, being 17 and working at Hardee's I couldn't afford to buy it from him.

1989 Blazer; FREE, this time from a cousin; sold it to my brother when I moved into Tucker.

1995 Buick Riviera; FREE, from my uncle, with initial cost of $875 for transmission; blown engine (279,000 miles)

1988 Olds 98; FREE from my grandfather when I lost the Buick and had nothing; totaled on Wade Ave, accident was not my fault. KBB was around $400, so "Total Loss" was not hard to achieve.

1991 4Runner; $1,600, bought from my brother; only made it about 4/5ths of the way to work this morning, now needs a new alternator.

Currently driving my dad's 1986 Toyota Pickup until I can put in the new alternator. This truck has been my in between vehicle since about 2005/2006.
