it's the same idea as changing gears on a bike.. you wouldn't start from a stop while going up a hill in the highest gear.

wine

playing the guitar--there's a nice acoustic one my father-in-law built sitting in our den, and it should be played not collecting dust

Spanish--I took Latin, Italian and French...silly me

"A less extreme version of this happened once, involving my DD getting completely shitfaced drunk/stoned... long story short I tried to drive home and ended up rolling backwards down a hill at a stoplight, I was so pissed/freaked out that I walked home and left his drunk ass in the passenger seat in the middle of the road."

haha that is a situation I've actually been in- it wasn't my car, but me and the owner were the only ones in the group who knew how to drive it, and also were the only ones who were drunk (the 2 girls were fine to drive- just didn't know how to drive a manual)

and if you wanted to see how it works and why you are doing what you are doing, How Stuff Works has some really good animations on there (I have used them to show other people how it works before)- give me a second and I'll see if I can find them

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm

I can't find the actual animations (it has been at least 5 years since I last looked at them)

I'll see if I can find them somewhere else

My dad made a point of teaching me how to drive a stick at 16. It was one of his "No son of mine... yadda yadda" things. It's just like riding a bike, once you learn it, you'll never forget, but you may stall at first if you are rusty.

but i still also like my good old canon AE-1. it is a trooper! and there's something about taking photographs with an old camera and developing them yourself.

i like people and things (especially broken down/industrial stuff). you could just walk around downtown and shoot a million pictures to practice.

i love people pictures - but not when they're posing. i think it is really cool to capture other people's emotions. that is hard though.

cows prolly make for decent photos. bodies of water are sweet, especially at sunrise/sunset. buildings at night are also neat.

The purpose of photography is to make people concentrate and linger on something they wouldn't otherwise even notice. You're capturing a moment and place for extended consideration.

^ that is why i like stuff (for lack of a better word haha)

some people call it shit or junk but STUFF is interesting. trash can be interesting. thats why you gotta just walk around/explore to find cool things to take pictures of

i'm not as big of a fan of nature shots. maybe scenery but...anyone with a digital SLR can take a picture of a lillypad and it will look good cause the camera is awesome.

lily pads are pretty meh, but there's something very peaceful about chaotic events in nature (storms, choppy water, etc)

Yeah, I sometimes stare at a square inch plot of chaotic and violent soil in my backyard for a half hour and come to the conclusion...fuck it.

oh i agree! i have an awesome pic my dad took (WITH THE AE-1 haha) back in the day of water coming up over a jetty at nags head (during a storm). its pretty. when i think nature i usually think of people zooming in on a rose and taking the picture. god i hate those.

roses and shit like that make for good shot, but they're boring. the background on my computer is a lightning strike over that volcano in iceland while it's still erupting or whatever. very chaotic, fucking beautiful, and it brings me peace of mind.
