Dude... seriously... give these kids a break. I made match-head pipe bombs (using plastic bottles... my attempt to be "safe") when I was a teenager too.... Maybe you grew up as a girl or something? Just call the cops whenever you hear them back there.... That should be enough for plausible deniability in case anything goes seriously wrong and on top of that you have homeowners insurance.

Filing a complaint against a police officer who correctly judged the situation to be a "slap on the hand" situation rather than ruining kids lives goes far beyond anything even Mr. Burns could dream of.

I'ma stop being a dick for a sec and point out that you seem to think that blowing shit up=malice towards others. I have blown up many a thing in my day with different devices of various degrees of safety. I, and almost all other teenage boys, enjoyed seeing things explode. Consider it an interest in physics. My enjoyment of bombs was not a means to hurt people. I would never dream of that. Just because they are blowing shit up doesn't mean they want to hurt you or would even be particularly hostile. Odds are that they'd just run away. If you feel like they're going to throw a bomb at you, take your pistol just in case, though I'd bet my life it wouldn't be necessary. Having it might make your vagina hurt a little less, though.

some friends of mine made the paper a few years ago by filling an emergency salvage bladder for logging equipment with SOMETHING, hooking a cannon fuse up to it, lighting it and letting it float away

im tempted to say hydrogen, but it was an explosion, not a burn. maybe hydrogen and oxygen? wonder if that would float though.

whatever it was it was about a 1/4 mile off the ground when it went off and that was NOT far enough up

I agree with your opinion djeternal. My dad owns 13 acres of land in Newton. It's not connected to the land we live on, it was part of the original land my family owned back in the 18th century. Anyway, anytime he finds out someone is out there hunting with out his permission or if someone is out there causing trouble he gets pissed. When it's your land you can be responsible for what happens on it even if you had nothing to do with what is going on.

Also, even if it wasn't your land it was still close enough to your house to shake the windows, those explosive were probably pretty dangerous and if they were homemade who is to say they couldn't have gone terribly wrong and ended up hurting someone not involved with them.

I think you are right to be upset that nothing happened to those people.

This 100 percent, w/ the exception my granmother lives on adjacent land, it's not in Newton, and that there is a bit more land. We've had a few fires set (either accidentally or purposefully), and a historically important home (between people moving in/out w/ heirlooms w/in ) burned as the result of trespassers. Firework/4 wheelers....anything more than kids exploring (although that could be iffy due to liability.

Update: The "homemade explosive device" was actually a cannon, and the kids weren't behind our house but were in fact drag-racing on Highway 61. They were using the cannon as a starting gun. And still, no arrests made.
