I might get qntmken to bttt the Fuck Obama thread for shits and giggles.
12/31/2009 12:22:55 AM
yeah the hypocrisy in this thread is quite amusing.I guess we should all follow everything that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama say since that's what the majority of you think.I don't agree with Rush on a lot of things but he brings up some good points, just like Glenn Beck, just like Al Franken and Keith Olbermann, and Gary Birdsong they say inflammatory things to get a reaction just like Columnists in newspapers and magazines do. Its what they get paid to do. I don't wish death on anybody even though everybody is going to die at some point.

The Rush Limbaugh Show has been around since 1988. It is syndicated on over 600 radio stations and is the highest rated radio talk show in the country. There is a reason that millions of listeners still tune in each day. If Rush didn't have relevant viewpoints and opinions on politics in this country, then none of what he has accomplished would be possible. Many polls show that more Americans consider themselves to be conservative than liberal. I understand that a lot of young people were really excited about President Obama and that was part of what got him elected. I just hope that at least a small portion of Obama supporters can look past the hype surrounding the Obama Presidency and really think about what his policies mean for our economy and foreign policy. As college educated citizens, it is important for us to find our own answers and not just believe what we see and hear in the mainstream media. I really think that Rush is right most of the time. I also think that many people that claim to hate Rush Limbaugh have never actually listened to his show and evaluated his comments. I have one friend at work that fits that bill. He was nice enough to admit that he had never actually listened to Rush, and I'm sure he never will. My friend is just one example of the culture that has been cultivated by entertainment outlets like MTV and the "mainstream" news media. Each of us should have a reason for not liking someone or something instead of just believing what others say and then just calling that person an idiot. Rush has pegged what this current administration is all about, and I know that history will show us that we made a bad decision in the last election. One thing for sure is that Rush Limbaugh's legacy will live on long after he leaves the radio waves.

I'm sure in your mind its even more supported by the fact that a majority didn't vote for bush.

Obama not redeeming enough in your eyes?
12/31/2009 1:32:58 AM
For now he's just trying to halt the damage, and doing a fair job of it, but it will be a while until he can start making things actually improve. But i'm not an obama nut, I wish he would focus on something more important than health care reform right now.[Edited on December 31, 2009 at 1:35 AM. for merbig http://www.gallup.com/poll/120857/conservatives-single-largest-ideological-group.aspxI called MTV an entertainment outlet, and yes, they do have influence over younger people. The mainstream media I am talking about are the classic news outlets like ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. These news outlets did very little to investigate what Obama was all about.I'm just glad Rush is ok. That's what this thread is all about. I understand that we all have different views and that's just one thing that makes this country the best one to live in.

12/31/2009 8:14:04 AM
I realize that this is Shit Shat and all, but I believe that some of you actually wish Limbaugh dead. This is partly what separates me from you--I would never wish someone dead simply because of his or her left-wing views. And I would never--ever--wish that someone throw a shoe or anything else at Obama. NB: And don't pull some old "DIAHF" post of mine. I never wanted this to actually happen.
12/31/2009 8:19:52 AM
Right, you wouldn't want anyone dead no matter what influence they have.
12/31/2009 8:21:20 AM
No.

I am one of the more liberal dudes you'll probably ever meet—tax the wealthy, abolish the death penalty, legalize drugs, subsidize abortions—but I don't hope Rush Limbaugh dies. I hope he recovers, and I hope the experience prompts him to reflect on what he does and maybe change the way he does it. The man's public image is the worst caricature of a greedy blowhard. He's just a dude with a radio show who has bought into his own act.Beau Weaver (a voice actor, i.e. someone with just as much political credibility as Rush Limbaugh) wrote a pretty insightful piece on his blog about Limbaugh's on-air persona and how it seems to consume him. Weaver worked as a DJ and radio show host in the '80s, and he writes about how just hosting a program leads people to believe you're "somebody." He goes on to discuss how those two pieces of the puzzle are bad for public discourse.
