it doesn't work like this when you're fat. you have to be strict on what you're allowed to eat or else you'll go overboard and never lose weight. fat people rarely have the will power to eat just 3 potato chips.

and thnx pshoes

I don't know any thin people that have the willpower to eat only 3 potato chips either

pooljobs, you have the right idea.

I also eat what I want but I control my portions, but I am also pretty active.

But this woman though gets here around 6 am before everyone else, and everyone swears she doesn't really get to work until 8 or 9. But she stays late until 530 or 630. She is obviously overworking herself-- probably one of the reasons why she can't take weight off.

She is also way too involved with her daughters' life...soccer practice, instrument practice that she has very little time in the evening to probably even cook. And the cycle continues, because I will bet a quick meal will be pizza from Dominos or something from the freezer, which probaby isn't healthy either.

How do even know all that? She’s always on the fucking phone and I sit cross from her. Really annoying. So my assumption about dinnertime is probably correct.

my lunch today was a 2/3 lb bacon bison pimento cheese burger, w/ a salad, and sweet potato fries.

I left a couple of fries.

i would say that its even more important not to worry too much about things if you are fat because you have no will power. there is no way you will ever stick to a crazy diet, just make small changes to teach yourself how to eat. pay attention to portion size, leave crappy food for special occasions, don't beat yourself up too much if you mess up... just get back to it, and keep a food journal of everything you eat so you can see how much snacking adds up. if you do this you will lose weight.

"calories aren't everything and shouldn't be used as the sole measure of a food's impact (good or bad) on your body

you have to take into consideration things like fat, protein, and fiber at least, and better if you factor in vitamins and minerals

500 calories is 500 calories, but 500 calories from a bowl of white sugar is not the same as 500 calories from apples"

Right. For instance, you can take in 200 calories from a 20 oz soda or 400 calories from a candy bar. You'll still be hungry afterwards. Or you can eat say, an apple and some nuts, and you'll actually be satisfied. People tend to play down the psychological aspect of eating. Hungry people are incredibly irrational, so you have to plan ahead (while you're still rational) and decide what food is really going to do the job.

Any kind of refined/processed carbohydrate is just going to be all around fail. I mean, sure, you can afford to indulge, but it has been stripped of 100% of its natural fibers and oils. Meaning it serves no purpose to the body except energy...and your body needs a lot more than energy.

Im not a big salad fan.

I'd rather have steamed, grilled, sauteed, etc. vegetables on the side. I feel more full with this.

Salad blows unless you dump 500 calories of dressing on it.

I like to snack on olives. They're fatty, but sooo good.

Plus I think it's the good fat.

^My thin g/f, too, wants to eat healthier, so I'm helping her out with eating in and cooking healthy instead of going to the likes Bojangles and McDonalds all the time.

--

I used to eat salads without dressing when I ate in the dining halls on campus. Most of the ingredients were so fresh (to me at least) that I didn't really need it.;

OMG me too!!!!! its such a weird feeling!

as for my diet observation: i recently found out i have a gluten allergy so yeah.....hardcore no gluten for me. i'm tired of the tummy aches and it makes me really lethargic even if i just have a little bit. luckily i like a LOT of different kinds of foods so i haven't had too much trouble finding things to eat.

khcadwal, i totally mix spinach and romaine together all the time. The romaine mixes it up a bit, since the spinach doesn't have "crunch"

salad ftw

I like a mix of arugula and curly endive for salads with a slightly sweet vinaigrette, some salted nut/seed, dried fruit, and a nice creamy cheese.

that's the blueprint for a tasty salad.

that is the biggest load of bull crap that I have ever heard.... I never feel satisfied after eating those supposedly healthy options. I will tell you what satisfies is a double cheeseburger from burger king. now that satisfies.

this time of year, the fruit has to be dried for me... what seasonal fruits can you get locally right now?

Oh yeah, i also try to do local/seasonal selections for my home-cooking.

Goat cheese, dried bing cherries, and a cherry-port vinaigrette... i would kill someone to have that right now... but i am lazy and not gonna go to the store to buy the stuff to make it right now.

All you dieters need to get on a strength based workout plan. Getting stronger allows you to move more weight, which builds more muscle. More muscle = higher metabolism, which requires you to eat more.

PM me for training inqueries.

I need to get back in the habit of eating a can of tuna around 3PM and eating a smaller lunch. I get so sick of eating tuna after a while that I have to take a break from it, and it's hard to remember to buy bulk beef jerky or canned chicken to keep in the office.

I'm doing Weight Watchers again. I'm finding that if I actually get all of the servings of fruit, veggies, etc. that I'm supposed to have on a balanced diet that I'm overly full. Us fat people must be seriously under nourished for all the calories we take in.

^ I have looked at the packs of several of the biscuits/cookies that WW makes, and they have all been very high in sugar and fat. WTF?

I even bought a couple of different ones, and they were sickly sweet

So is it supposed to be "Watch Your Weight Grow"?

I guess it is one of those diets where they still make crap for you to eat, but they just pre-assign small portion sizes so that people lose weight... but they are still eating crap, though. And the company's wallet gets fatter and fatter!

evidence that cals are far more important to control than "junk" food, but still doesn't undermine the importance of a balanced diet

i know when i was overweight, my big fear was being restricted to all these "clean" foods but as I found out, it really isn't as important as I thought. I've gone months without cheating on my diet and felt great as a result, but there was really no long term consequence of a night of eating "dirty" foods.
