coulda, but i've been on several road trips with these guys...we enjoy the drive about as much as the trip itself. Plus my buddy runs a rental car location so we got a new car fully covered for next to nothing. saves our vehicles.

when i was in raleigh, and going to AC a lot, you could get southwest round trips for $89 to phl.

hop the train to 30th street, njta ac line, blam, you're at the borg for under a buck

A radio station ranked the top 45 steaks in Philly, lots of great detail as to the nuances of each sandwich.

Pat's and Geno's were near the bottom

Quote :
"35. Geno’s Steaks, 1219 S. 9th Street, South Philadelphia, 215-389-0659.
The neon lights and bright orange tiles here can probably been seen from Sky Lab (or at least Google Earth), so you should have no problem finding the corner of Ninth and Passyunk, where Joey Vento has been serving “Whiz wit” since 1966. There’s a lot of atmosphere here and a long list of rules – we’ve learned that it’s best to embrace the Philly att-y-tude.

What makes Geno’s superior to Pat’s, in our eyes, is the bread. The roll seems better – fresher, yet crisper and more flavorful than what’s across the street. What is it about Philadelphia that makes our city’s bread so terrific? Is it something in the water?

Still, we can’t honestly put Geno’s into our Pantheon of Great Sandwiches. The meat was too dry. The cheese, although doled out generously, was rather tasteless.

Listen, it’s a great experience going down to this corner post-midnight, figuring out 10 ways to illegally park and watching the characters who roll into Geno’s (on our night, it ranged from a formally dressed wedding party to a group of teens who went shirtless despite the 30-degree temperatures). Extra points for how spotlessly clean it is, despite the big crowds. But if your goal is the best cheesesteak around, there are many better options."

Quote :
"42. Pat’s King of Steaks, 1237 E. Passyunk Avenue, South Philadelphia, 215-468-1546
There’s an old Woody Allen joke From “Annie Hall”: Two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of them says, “Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.” The other one replies, “Yeah, I know; and such small portions.” That’s how I felt at Pat’s – One of the most rubbery, tasteless cheesesteaks we had – and at $7.50 it was almost among the smallest.

It’s a shame that every tourist and out-of-town camera crew finds its way to the corner of Ninth and Passyunk. Because, other than the bright neon lights and all-night circus scene around the Geno’s v. Pat’s rivalry, there is not much more reason to regard this as the vanguard for our city’s hallmark sandwich. Lots of gristle and fat, a cold roll, all kinds of strictly enforced rules about ordering – but hey, at least they let me speak in Spanish on this side of the street.

It is interesting that, of the first 200 people who made suggestions to our website, not a single one endorsed Pat’s. There are dozens of places to get a great cheesesteak in Philadelphia. With all due respect to tradition, we do not believe that Pat’s is any kind of king among them. "

My friend opened up an account at a local bank there for that very reason

In his name, but we all put in 5K to start and withdrew and deposited before and after on every trip

Worked like a charm

cages will do wire transfers.

i used to keep a box at the borg in the back.

kinda like a safe deposit box, but i'd just keep like, a rack of black chips in there so i didnt have to bother with carrying cash in or out, or other things i dont want to talk about on a message board.

one of the most hilarious ac events ive seen was a straight thuggin' dude walked up to a $15 min bet craps table at the trop

said he had sold his house, was gonna run it to the big time, with his ~20k.

long story short, a few hours later he had to get a floor exemption to play his last $13 on the pass line (since he couldn't make the min bet), and lost that too.

mfer jumped on the craps table, started like he was going to go after the box man

due to the situation, security was already near at hand, and dude got terry tate'd across the craps table. not sure what happened to him, but we'll say security took him out to a door that wasn't exactly the front steps.

not really sure why we were at the trop, but this during the most epic craps session ever, a 34 hour bender with no food or sitting down, just generic red bull and johnnie walker.. and me and the guy with me both ended the experience +/- $25.

make sure to get some orange water ice at Bruce's cart

he's the guy with the huge Canadian flag flying above his cart, which is funny because his cart is right beside the Liberty Bell.

Well i had both Pat's and Geno's as well as one other, Jim's Steaks.

Pat's had better bread, but Geno's had better flavor IMO.

Jim's Steaks was actually my favorite, but it could have been b/c i was starving and it was the first one i had over the weekend. A couple people we spoke to who were locals suggested Jim's and said it was one of the best.

All in all though, they were all good; A+ would over indulge again!

as for the rest of the weekend...saw almost everything in Philly, tried to make the Flyers game sunday but tickets were sold out and even the scalpers were sold out. Spent all of saturday in NYC which was awesome.
