1.31V is actually very good for a Q6600 at 4.0, you just need to upgrade your heat sink.

70C really isn't that bad on a stock HS, have you tried Intel Burn Test? It's the most taxing bench available and even my huge HS gets to ~69C"

I've got the same heatsink you do and that silverstone fan you have... I've got it attached directly to the flat side of the heatsink. You really need water to run the Q6600 at 4 GHz. Remember, the Q6600 is 65nm so it produces more heat than the newer Core 2 Quads. The reason I run it at 3.0 GHz instead of 3.6 GHz all the time is because I don't want it to die a premature death, especially when I have little need for the faster speed most of the time.

Yea, but water is just so damn expensive for cooling. If I did go water I would only put it on my GTX 295, my E8500 isn't going to go much further than 4.2. I'd be really lucky to get 4.5ghz out of it even on water unless I ran insane voltages.

Plus 8Gb of RAM does cut down your OC potential, even though I have 4 sticks of OCZ Reapers.

haha you still have a core 2 duo with ddr2? Damn man that's like so 2006. Holding back that 295gtx. You really need to upgrade to an i7. Big performance gains over a core 2 duo now a days. Waste of money. I've had 8 gB's for quite some time now. DDR2 is soooo cheap now it's nothing to brag about.

^hardly. I didn't necessarily mean to imply that an i7 paired with a 295gtx would do better than a core 2 duo paired with a 295gtx (only slightly better performance), i was simply saying overall for not just gaming upgrading to an i7 quad core w/ HT is a big jump over a core 2 duo for other cpu intensive applications. If you're ONLY a gamer than yes the upgrade isn't necessarily worth it (aside from spending money on an outdated 775 socket). Although if you're just trying to brag then i don't think bragging about upgrading your socket 775 PC with cheap ddr2 is really worth it. Now bragging about that much DDR3 is another story.

please read first page

and it's ok to envy my 295, but a C2D Wolfdale 45nm @4.2ghz is plenty of CPU power at 1920x1200. Resolution makes a huge difference in bottlenecks.

^^I did read the first page. I'm just saying you're still spending money on an outdated socket that to upgrade you'll have to buy an entirely new cpu, mobo, and ram. Although you are correct if you're simply gaming at this point in time then upgrading isn't necessarily worth it, and the fact that so many new applications have GPU acceleration (cad/photoshop/flash 10.1) you won't really be hurt by not having the newest fastest cpu. I'm simply saying bragging about an outdated socket and cheap ram hardly merits an entire thread.

^^ But could you get 2 pages bragging about DDR3?

^ RAM prices fluctuate, many tech sites have a daily graph on prices of DDR2/DDR3. The reason DDR2 went up is because i5.

I paid $40 for my first 2x2Gb OCZ Reapers and $75 for my 2nd, but the new ones have Nickle Plated Copper!

they are also slightly higher, so the old 2 sticks don't block air for the 2 new ones.

That benq monitor is really old. It might be comparable or better than a dell ultrasharp from 2007 but not the newer ultrasharps which i have.
