In fifth grade, we had one of those huge candy jars where if you got the closest guess as to how many pieces were in it, you got the whole jar to yourself. I guessed the exact number.

The only thing is my method was off. I counted the number of pieces going around the jar in a row and the number of pieces going up the jar in a column. Then I multiplied those two together to get my estimate of how many were in the jar. That shouldn't have worked.

So I think my teacher lied and let me win the candy to boost my self-esteem or some shit. And it was probably supposed to make me look nice and friendly when I opened the jar and shared the candy.

But, if I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure I didn't share it.


And that's the most notable thing I've accomplished in my life.

i got 1st place in the wayne county agricultural fair drafting contest two years in a row.


probably the best thing i ever did was my freshman year of high school when i tutored a senior who was failing geometry. he had to have it to graduate. i started tutoring him around midterm when he had a solid F and he ended up with a B in the class. i was doing it as volunteer work or whatever, but his mom came in to school at the end of the year and they called me down to the office cause she wanted to meet me and thank me. she gave me one of those fat-black-woman hugs and called me child and cried and gave me a giftcard to somewhere i don't remember. made me feel really good.

My brother set me up... I was 5 and was suppose to chaperone a participant... When the lady asked "do you need a partner", my brother answered "yes" for me. So she assumed I was handicaped and let me compete. Those fuckers didn't stand a chance.

- Backpacked in Europe for a couple months last year
- Passed the South Carolina Bar Exam on the first try a couple years back

That's about it. Nothing too special, but not too shabby either.

won some art award when i was in 2nd/3rd grade
top 5 finishes in open water races ((lake gaston and swim around key west (key west was fun even though i was breifly hospitalized with dehydration and mild heat stroke (sharks, coral and fishes)) and a super sprint triathlon
had science fair projects go way over the heads of the judges (hilarious to witness) (middle school)
won a relay by out touching the other guy (he was actually ahead by about 6 inches but finished like crap)
wasn't born in this country which confuses a lot of people
won library and science awards in elementary and middle school
won some minor sports awards in HS
got into at least one law school that's not complete crap
won some sort of brain game competition in elementary school (our team, 4th in the nation or something like that)
bragged about myself on the internet
spent a 4 day stint in philly (in a god awful part of town) helping in a dine-in food for the homeless deal, feel good kinda stuff
won a bunch of awards for my summer swim league team (most points for the season for 3-4 years in a row among others)

there is some other stuff i'm forgetting in hs and such... but i don't remember

I've gotten a few awards at work and stuff. That's about it for me. I've got my own food on my plate and my own roof over my head though so that's enough of an accomplishment for me.

I won my high school science award upon graduating I think with more science classes than anyone else had taken at that school too that point, and now I study public administration which has nothing to do with honors earth science or ap bio.

I helped organize a protest/rally for gay rights/marriage equality in Raleigh after prop 8 and other than the annual pride parade in Durham, it was the largest gay rights event in the state’s history with 1400+ people. And I’ve organized a few other similar smaller events in Durham & Chapel Hill.

I’ve gone on the local radio station which reaches most of the triangle area to do political commentary a few times (& recorded a radio commercial for the vet clinic where I worked), but my biggest radio claim to fame was going on The State of Things (a show on WUNC, our NPR affiliate) on their live primary day coverage back in May 08 which was broadcast statewide. I’ve been interviewed for a story in the Independent, and for a story on WRAL evening news (I made it onto NBC evening news once with a barely audible 1 liner about a campaign too ). At the same vet clinic I started up an annual pet food drive which got some live coverage on the local radio station.

I’ve volunteered and interned with a number of campaigns, but last election cycle I made it up to the level of campaign staff for the first time as Volunteer Coordinator for a mayoral campaign that won by about 100 votes in November.

Getting into grad school & getting married were pretty big for me, even if those are things that a lot of people do.
