Holy Crap, I go downstairs for a minute and it's already to page two!

can you drive a stick?"

Light commuting, a few roadtrips, *hauling sheets of MDF and other fairly bulky material*

I'm a big fan of folding the back seat down and having a LOT of cargo space in a small car. I rarely carry around more than 1 person anyway. I can drive stick like a mother, but I'd prefer an automatic. Performance is always a plus and driving stick would be more fun, but I'm not looking for a Fast and Furious car here, just something that looks nice, is mechanically reliable, and will last 5-7 years min.

Obligatory

I gave you a list of basically everything like those that is available in the US, minus Korean, American, German, and British cars.

KIA SOUL!!!

It is a very good looking car, unlike the Honda Element and the Scion xB. it fits all your criteria, and would be cheap to run and maintain.

I'd recommend the Outback over the WRX wagon, mainly because it has more cargo room and feels slightly roomier to sit in. Both of them are solid cars though.
