wrong. its reported all the timeit doesnt HAPPEN all the timei say they controlled the weapon pretty well, they hit himthe heart condition is not their problem. I would hate to live in a world where the police have no right to control a suspect.so youre tellin me if someone is shootin at your momma that the police should set up a trial and convict him before asking him to drop the weapon or risk being put down?[Edited on January 28, 2010 at 12:49 PM. by the way. awesome

They absolutely did not control their weapon. If they did, dude wouldn't be dead. Unless they intended to kill him....which goes back to my earlier point of the police not having the right to judge and execute you in the streetAwesome analogy. Shooting at my momma equates to throwing things at officers.[Edited on January 28, 2010 at 1:01 PM. Reason : l]

crime being committed?its is an extreme, but every arrest made is done without triali dont see what the problem is in the other extreme, do we need to put a tresspasser on trial before we arrest him?

How about severity of crime, you simpleton? Are you going to tell me jaywalking is the same as burglary? And I'm obviously talking about judgement and execution in the street.... not arrest. Believe it or not, you have a right to a trial.

I don't see a problem. The cop should have shot him with a regular gun.Fucker had it it coming.

What wonderful incite you have on this situation...

woopsi think exeution in this case is a little extremewhen the cops killed peyton strickland, or when they killed Diallo up in NY that was execution, or when that cop had a dude on his stomach and pulled out his "stun gun" which wound up being a gun and shot him, that was unnecessary as the dude was ina position of being controlledthis was an attempt to take control of a situation that went awry. it was not a heinous act by police[Edited on January 28, 2010 at 1:57 PM. The problem is that the police depend too much on the tazer as a compliance weapon. It's designed to be "the last thing you use before you take out your firearm," but too many police officers have it at "do what I say or else I tazer you." They don't try to talk to the suspect, they don't try to force compliance with hands-on and another officer, they simply move straight to the tazer. That's a huge mistake, and that's why this shit happens.

cops use tasers because there's no repercussions if they fuck up and kill someone. They know they can get away with tasing someone just because they didn't let the handcuffs get put on fast enough. If that cop had whacked the suspect over the head numerous times with a baton or doused them with pepper spray because they didn't like their wrists being contorted behind their back, he'd be getting sued for all he's worth and fired from the department to reduce their liability.

In a use of force, a + b doesn't have to equal C. You don't need to OC someone before you can shoot them. EDW's are an effective tool to effect an arrest, or control a subject who has the potential to cause harm. Potential is the key word. Like in deadly force situations, the suspect only needs to show an imminent threat. North Carolina states that officers can you use force to effect an arrest. If someone is fighting you, why is it wrong to use an EDW to avoid you getting hurt? The problem is many have not dealt w/ what officers deal with. People ask, why was a high school student exposed to an EDW? Well because even if you are some MMA champion, it only takes one shot to get hurt and your career over.

^^every time I see a youtube posting of a person getting tased, the person isn't even remotely close to being violent. the suspect's arm doesn't bend behind their back very far because they're fat? tase em. the suspect doesn't lay flat and silent after they've already been handcuffed? tase em. don't like the way a 70 year old woman is talking to you after you shove her? tase her.You keep assuming that cops tase people to protect their livelyhood. There are a bunch of asshole cops out there that tase people because they are shitty cops and don't have the communication skills to keep a situation from escalating out of control. To make it even worse, the police departments always stick up for the cops who do something stupid with a taser. They wouldn't stick up for the officer if he shot someone with his handgun, so why are they going to do so for something that has just as much potential for a serious lawsuit?

Are there any actual cops on TWW that can comment on this?
