yeah just to clarify i think you are much less of a risk not soaked in formaldehyde but i could see people who are against letting you be buried without a casket, etc. using the 'groundwater' contamination' thing as an excuse

Are there laws about burying your pets in your backyard? I mean I don't really see much of a difference...they are all dead bodies that are being buried.

I think it's just the taboo of death

If a horse dies they just drive the backhoe out to the field, dig a hole beside it, and push it in.

I'd like to secretly be buried in the mulch pile at Lowe's in the middle of the night.

When my grandfather died due to Alzheimer's, we donated his body to science. I can't remember what happened with the funeral, but it was much more worth it to donate him than worry about viewing.

"haha, thanks to this thread...Justin and I just did

donate organs, cremate body, if one goes b4 the other keep ashes in box til the other passes, we both spread in the ocean together that way we can visit every beach in the world
"

Z and I talked about this a loooooooooong time ago
We both knew we want to be cremated, but after he forbade me to make a lifegem of him (it's creepy ), I had to ask: well, what, then?

And this is why I love him: he wants to be put to use - preferably as fertilizer for an orange tree. Just throw his ashes in the hole if I were to plant one.
--
I think we talked about it when his gramma died right after we started dating, b/c it was in the context of the other side of his family, which is crazy and sometimes stupid: they're against cremation because it means you're being burned after death, and that equals hell. Yes, some of them really feel that being cremated will put you in hell.

i've also read you can be donated as a crash test dummy.

i mean, the plastic ones work ok but nothing beats the real thing

^^^^No, we just went to a hospital and dropped him on the front steps with a sticky note on his forehead that said "Attn: Science"

well then I think my 2nd sentence pretty much explains that one...

I don't want people standing around looking at my dead body.

we did too as far as knowing the other wanted to be cremated, but got more specific last night.

...I just realized that I expect 100% that he will die before me.

And he says I don't plan ahead

you can bury pets in your yard, at least in rocky mount. your city will have it's own ordinance.
Quote :
"(b) The owner of any small animal (less than one hundred (100) pounds) which dies shall, within twenty-four (24) hours after he has learned of its death, bury it at least three (3) feet beneath the surface of the ground and not closer than three hundred (300) feet to any flowing stream or public body of water, or otherwise have it removed as described in section 4-19(a).
(c) The owner of any large animal (greater than one hundred (100) pounds) which dies shall, within twenty-four (24) after he has learned of its death, bury it at least four (4) feet beneath the surface of the ground and not closer than three hundred (300) feet to any flowing stream or public body of water, or otherwise have it removed from his property."

When I die, I just want to be sat outside. No donation. No cremation. Definitely no burial. No nothing.

I have this deep seated fear of a "layover in Heaven." No one knows how long you stay with your body after its physical death. I am terrified that I'll still be trapped in my body for a period of time after I die. So, just prop me up somewhere and let me rot.

No organ donation, but I would be willing to donate my body to science. Frankly I don't really care what happens to my body after I cease to exist.

If you donate your body to the human gifts registry that supplies med/pod/dental schools with bodies for gross anatomy labs, then your body is cremated afterwards. Also parts of the body usually are cut off for more specific classes e.g. a lower extremity anatomy lab, and then burned with the other parts of the body later. There are human tissue waste baskets that stay underneath the tables so that pieces of the body that are removed, usually fat, are burned with the body. Besides just being respectful and decent, it's done so for religious reasons also. There is a "Celebration of Remembrance" done in the honor of those that donated their bodies, which is attended by family members and the students. I think it's a great to donate your body and having a legacy of helping physicians learn about the human body. I probably wouldn't do it just b/c I'll end up being an organ donor. Plus my blood type is O- so they can be accepted by more people. Although that doesn't guarantee that there won't be complications b/c of MHCs though.
