I did the drive straight with my gfs in college. It took us 17 hours.

@lucy

No kidding. My best friend lived in Florida for years, and 90mph is regular speed on the major highways there. Haha I believe he got a warning ticket for going 90mph once.

He used to ride his Mazda3 just below the 118mph governor pretty much the whole way across Alligator Alley between Naples and Lauderdale / Miami. I believe he only got pulled for that once of many many times...

^^ I've done the Miami to Key West trip before. It's not bad at all. I would say three hours is about right. On the way down it was at night, but on the way back was in the morning and it was a million times better doing it during the day because the views are awesome.

^^ Alligator Alley is a great place to speed. It's terribly boring and it kind of scares the hell out of me.

@lucy

Ya'll went straight from Raleigh to Key West? Please befriend my girlfriend and help her see the light... No, she's a really good sport; I'm all about getting there quickly instead of stopping every half hour for pee and stretch and food breaks, and when we went to NYC in January she never asked to stop once. Wish I could say the same for her sister and my cousin.

we went from raleigh to miami on a bus and it took like 16 hours

Speaking from much experience, I tell you that there is no avoiding rush hour in Jacksonville.

You could leave RDU at 6PM, midnight, 6AM, noon, whenever and somehow you would still hit Jacksonville at 5PM on the dot and sit on a bridge for 2 hours. It's some serious Twilight Zone shit.

leave about 7pm and drive through the night. SC is a long drive and getting through there at 10pm is easier than 10am

I've done this drive a dozen or so times and I almost always leave at like 1 or 2am so that you are not spending too much time driving late night

"

we kept trying to set the cruise control to 90, but it wouldn't stay at anything higher than 88mph. I would expect as much from a delorean, but not a WRX.

Getting passed by blue haired women in Cadillacs going 100mph on cruise control makes you question your driving ability.
