1 year ago this thread would have been about gothy vampire kids.2 years ago this thread would have been about emo kids.3 years ago this thread would have been about some amalgamation of hardcore and metal.Prior to that it would have been about punk kids. You're either in and you're a loser who walks around with an air of superiority.Or you're out and you're a loser who walks around talking about losers who walk around with an air of superiority.Personally, I'm tired of all of you.Bifocal Media help us all.

but....
3/2/2010 12:23:54 AM
I LOL whenever this debate goes on, because I'm pretty sure most of you are serious.I remember when all the Kinsella brothers' bands were considered emo, but now according to the interwebz, to be emo you have to be fat with dyed black hair and have a penchant for cutting yourself. Those people used to be called goths. I'd be interested in what group of people are called hippies now. Are they dudes with huge red mohawks and anarchy tatoos? Is Metallica punk rock?
3/2/2010 12:59:10 AM
^ mambagrl can tell you all about punk rock
3/2/2010 1:13:59 AM

3/2/2010 1:15:21 AM
Goths are still goths, thank you. Feel free to continue to ignore us, it's cool.

I still dislike the trivialization of once-powerful signifiers, like "hipster" (from the '50s), "emo" (from the '80s), "goth" (from the '70s), and "hippie" (from the '60s, although the latter-day variant is similar enough to the old one); seriously, "emo" wasn't originally whiny angst lapped up by white suburban teenagers from middle-class homes, and "hipsters" were actual intellectuals rather than the posers of today.
3/23/2011 12:42:51 AM
Uh, Neal Cassady was a poser
3/23/2011 12:46:04 AM
^^ I feel like you're basing that on Jack Kerouac and a small handful of others while ignoring the vast majority of douchebags who insisted that 78s sounded better and listened to the Kingston Trio before "they went mainstream".
3/23/2011 12:50:40 AM
I just sounded like many an ignorant conservative, pining for a "golden age" that never existed
3/23/2011 12:58:11 AM
lol at marko quoting nirvanafirst song on in utero
3/23/2011 1:09:20 AM
What's the difference between a douchebag and a hipster? A douchebag spends a lot of money to make it look like he has lots of money. A hipster spends lots of money to make it look like he has none.
3/23/2011 1:14:20 AM
