It's illegal to panhandle after dark in Raleigh. Cops were just doing what they're paid to do, getting rid of undesirables. Please go back to ignoring the seedy events that take place around you every day.

Panhandling is allowed between the hours of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. A photo id is required for the "permit". Heh, I wonder how many hobos have photo ids or a way to get downtown to pick up the permit. The entire bureaucratic process exists, of course, only to make it easier to identify and prosecute undesirables while simultaneously protecting the government and their agents from legal challenges.

And I have no problem with that, because I am currently not an undesirable.

Maybe she had a warrant for her arrest and the cop was just confirming it was the right person. Maybe the guy the arrested earlier said she did something and that she had a knife or something. I see nothing wrong with cops putting people in cuffs and detaining them for their own safety. Its at night and hard to see things. Maybe she reached for her pocket? Overall you don't know what happened and want to screen police brutality.

What would happen if she had a knife and stabbed the cop? What would you say then? That the cop should have put her in hand cuffs off the start?

something similar happened to me a couple months ago at mission valley. i was outside of champions, some guy asked for a smoke and my friend gave him one. then he followed us down to the wing place asking us for money, then someone who worked there came out and yelled at the guy "i told you to never come around here again!" cops showed up less than 10 minutes later and went searching all around the shopping center until they found the guy and arrested him.

the cops actually talked to us about it though, said they had been called after him many times because he has been drunk in public and asking people for drugs. they had enough reason to take him in. i wouldn't jump to any conclusions about this woman without knowing whats up.

do they keep those things on public record? see if someone working in police records can tell you about an arrest on Hillsborough St at whatever time it happened.

There were three cars. There was the arresting officer, four cops from the two other cars, and two other beat cops walking up the street. And as I was leaving there was another officer pulling out of Horne st.

When I know this is something that wouldn't have happened with a "desirable," I know it isn't warranted. Would she have simply pulled up and thrown a rich-looking White woman over the hood of her cruiser?

I see no direct video evidence of her guilt or her innocence. You can assume she had a warrant or you can assume racial profiling. In either case, you are clearly making assumptions about the rationale of the police officer. Neither are valid.

i only read the first few posts in this thread, but i don't see anything that would make me assume race was an issue. it sounds like the more important thing these people had in common is that they were panhandlers, probably doing so illegally. In fact, I would assume that they had previously been warned about their panhandling before, and continued to do so in blatant violation of the law.
