so you're bitter that you bought eleventy billion 6pks of beer you didn't enjoy?

go to Village Draft House, Flying Saucer, or some other place that allows you to sample before you buy.

ok, here's why i'm all about sampling local beers. mock me all you will.

up until this past Christmas, i was that girl who ordered Miller Lite every time she went out. every single time. i ordered Miller Lite while at the fucking Village Draft House over Thanksgiving. seriously?

i was so closed-minded, and it never occurred to me just how much i was missing out on with regards to flavors. i was being so....boring....because that's what i was used to for the past 5 years.

so one day, i said i wanted to try something new. hubby spent over $100 at Total Wine getting me different types of beer to try, local or not. and now, i haven't had a Miller Lite in over a month.

Angry Angel is the weakest in the main Big Boss line.

And for the first page...bad penny is the brown ale. Hells Bell is a Belgian ale

now that i think about it, outside of the occasional seasonal big boss is my least favorite local brewery

though i used to drink a shit-ton of it because one of the brewers lived across the street and had two kegs in his fridge at all times

I actually kind of like Angry Angel. Also, Big Operator is delicious, and Harvest Time is the best pumpkin ale I've had to date.

they've got aviators at least most of the time at foundation, raleigh times, tir na nog, and remedy

and we're trying to convince the owner of jp to let us have aviator instead of lameass fat tire

duvel is a really middle of the road, lighter belgian ale -- if you like hefeweizen i'd try entering belgians from that angle, you'll find if you enter slowly from a direction close to what you normally like, that your taste will expand over time

I was gonna say the same thing about purple haze but figured I had already done enough hating in this thread.

But yea... purple haze is disgusting - why not just mix some cough medicine with budweiser and save some money?

we've gone through about 5 different Aviator brews at ruckus.

and yes, VERY hit or miss. especially when you brew 5 new beers per month.

I'm surprise of the number of wolfwebbers who go there.

Anyone remember when it was Edenton?
Rock Creek?

God I can't remember all the names.

STFU! New Belgium is shot other than their limited releases such as La folie!!

I think the only time i ever poured out anything at beerfest was an aviator beer.

But as far at the thread goes...i like what big boss is doing..they have a progressive mindset.

Alot of local breweries are brewing beers that do not distinguish themselves from already distributed beers. NC is a unique brewers market. and most breweries aren't taking advantage of this. People come from all over the US for the sexual chocolate release from foothills. I have a problem with breweries in NC that only want to be simple repetitive beers (i am talking about boylan bridge for one).

I'm sure alot of you are asking who they fuck are you? well i was the asshole going out of state to get beers that weren't available in North Carolina few years ago, I am a homebrewer that has won numerous awards in local competitions.

You assholes probably think Guinness is a heavy beer. New flash not!! less calories than a bud.

screw your guys im going home!!!

When I was working at Big Boss we got a chance to talk the owner. He wanted a Brewer to come in make a few a simple recipes and NEVER change it. He was only willing to spend ~29k/yr on a brewer. Probably why their beer is so shitty.

it's funny that i posted in this thread all day yesterday, and at the party last night the keg was floating by 930pm. sooooo, since Big Boss was right down the street, they went and got a keg of Hell's Belle.

also, we had dinner last night (before the party) at Village Draft House and i tasted the Aviator Hot Rod Red and i thought it was terrible. it was waaaaay too hoppy for me. if they have a lighter beer i'd be happy to try it, but Hot Rod Red was all the Aviator that VDH had on tap.

Big Boss' best beer was the IPA, which they discontinued because of the hop shortage but hopefully they'll bring it back soon. As far as Hells Belle, there are a ton of better beers out there for $8.99 a six pack
