3/13/2010 3:47:17 PM

3/13/2010 3:48:38 PM
and you're too fucking stupid to tell the differencewho cares, drink what you like
3/13/2010 3:49:08 PM
i like aviatorthey're hit or miss, but the hits are excellentalso french broad, their kolsch is delicious--y'all go down to foundationthe only beers they serve are made in NC
3/13/2010 3:49:09 PM
ok, here's why i'm all about sampling local beers. mock me all you will.up until this past Christmas, i was that girl who ordered Miller Lite every time she went out. every single time. i ordered Miller Lite while at the fucking Village Draft House over Thanksgiving. seriously?i was so closed-minded, and it never occurred to me just how much i was missing out on with regards to flavors. i was being so....boring....because that's what i was used to for the past 5 years.so one day, i said i wanted to try something new. hubby spent over $100 at Total Wine getting me different types of beer to try, local or not. and now, i haven't had a Miller Lite in over a month.[Edited on March 13, 2010 at 3:50 PM. Reason : ooh Golden Monkey is on my list of stuff to try]
3/13/2010 3:49:20 PM
Angry Angel is the weakest in the main Big Boss line. And for the first page...bad penny is the brown ale. Hells Bell is a Belgian ale
3/13/2010 3:53:27 PM
yeaaa i drink hefeweizens, so Angry Angel is on par with what i like it is definitely the lightest of all their beers
3/13/2010 3:54:55 PM
jamie you tried belgian ales yet
3/13/2010 3:58:21 PM
now that i think about it, outside of the occasional seasonal big boss is my least favorite local brewerythough i used to drink a shit-ton of it because one of the brewers lived across the street and had two kegs in his fridge at all times
3/13/2010 3:58:37 PM
I actually kind of like Angry Angel. Also, Big Operator is delicious, and Harvest Time is the best pumpkin ale I've had to date.
3/13/2010 3:59:51 PM
magic hat makes a decent heffeweisen (circus boy).
3/13/2010 3:59:59 PM
^^^^thats what hubby drinks, and my general opinion is that it's too dark for mei haven't yet tasted one of his beers that i actually liked enough to drink an entire pint ofany recommendations?^good to know, i'll give it a shot next time i'm getting singles at Total Wine[Edited on March 13, 2010 at 4:00 PM. I saw you mentioned aviator earlier, vb, are they stocked in Raleigh? Haven't found them down here yet.
3/13/2010 4:00:28 PM
they've got aviators at least most of the time at foundation, raleigh times, tir na nog, and remedy and we're trying to convince the owner of jp to let us have aviator instead of lameass fat tire ]
3/13/2010 4:01:42 PM
duvel is a really middle of the road, lighter belgian ale -- if you like hefeweizen i'd try entering belgians from that angle, you'll find if you enter slowly from a direction close to what you normally like, that your taste will expand over time
3/13/2010 4:03:01 PM
As opposed to Solid Snake Beer
3/13/2010 4:03:30 PM
^^Buck has had Duvel before and likes it, but i don't recall ever tasting it. it's on my list ]
3/13/2010 4:06:28 PM
there are better blond belgian ales out there but like i said, it's a good starter belgian
3/13/2010 4:06:57 PM
Drinking Great Lakes Commodore Perry here today
3/13/2010 4:08:12 PM
i've had a Unibroue Ephemere (A-), UFO Hefeweizen (B-), and Sweetwater 420 (B+) so far today.next up is something fruity, likely that Purple Haze i've got hiding in the fridge.i'ma be drunk by dinner
3/13/2010 4:09:20 PM
purple haze is disgustingflemish sour >>>>>> "fruit-flavored" beer
3/13/2010 4:10:15 PM
i like the fruity beers. like, every 3rd beer (if i'm drinking at home) and i can tolerate the fruity and actually enjoy it.never had a "flemish sour" so please to describe what you're talkin about
3/13/2010 4:11:14 PM
I was gonna say the same thing about purple haze but figured I had already done enough hating in this thread. But yea... purple haze is disgusting - why not just mix some cough medicine with budweiser and save some money?
3/13/2010 4:11:56 PM
i could never drink them all night. but having a purple haze in between other stuff doesn't bother me. sure it's sweet, but it's yummy.
3/13/2010 4:13:09 PM
very acidic, no hop taste at allmonk's cafe and petrus oud bruin are my two favorites
3/13/2010 4:13:51 PM

we've gone through about 5 different Aviator brews at ruckus.and yes, VERY hit or miss. especially when you brew 5 new beers per month.[Edited on March 13, 2010 at 9:25 PM. Reason : asdfddd]
3/13/2010 9:25:09 PM
Cary ruckus needs a good IPA on tap

We're getting kegs of Big Boss for our wedding. I wish you could get the seasonal brews in kegs
3/14/2010 10:04:50 AM
^^ that actually makes a lot of sense... their beer tastes like it was made by a 29k brewer.
3/14/2010 10:08:30 AM
Has anyone mentioned Helles Belles? <3
3/14/2010 10:16:30 AM
My favorite of their beers.[Edited on March 14, 2010 at 12:22 PM. Reason : -]
3/14/2010 12:21:51 PM
I fully support this:
3/14/2010 12:23:46 PM
it's funny that i posted in this thread all day yesterday, and at the party last night the keg was floating by 930pm. sooooo, since Big Boss was right down the street, they went and got a keg of Hell's Belle. also, we had dinner last night (before the party) at Village Draft House and i tasted the Aviator Hot Rod Red and i thought it was terrible. it was waaaaay too hoppy for me. if they have a lighter beer i'd be happy to try it, but Hot Rod Red was all the Aviator that VDH had on tap.]
3/14/2010 12:25:15 PM
Big Boss' best beer was the IPA, which they discontinued because of the hop shortage but hopefully they'll bring it back soon. As far as Hells Belle, there are a ton of better beers out there for $8.99 a six pack[Edited on March 14, 2010 at 4:11 PM. Reason : .]
