i understand where he's coming from, but like others have said, the people who want that land are going to get it eventually. that guy is being pretty naive if he thinks he can protect it forever.

that's kinda the point...he probably doesn't think he can protect it forever

but that doesn't mean he shouldn't try, or stand up for his principles

God forbid he actually be noble and principled

'cause people like that don't exist, of course

if his children will have no chance to sell the land, then it is, indeed, a different picture

this is what's funny about this situation

a bunch of westerners have their definitions and categories for "a good life" and then wonder why people from more primitive societies do not share this

dude is perfectly happy where he is, obviously, because even 5 billion won't take him from that land. maybe his children will feel the same way. maybe you can judge them for not abiding by your standards too

first yall should ask yourselves,
who lives a happier life, people like this guy, or billionares?
what will the uranium be used for, and are you glad he's not letting them have it?

I mean it's not even about Mercedes and Xboxes and private jets and whatnot. It's about making sure your kids get the absolute best education, healthcare, etc. That amount of money can keep that going for hundreds of years.

Meh. If he wanted to, he could get the money then incorporate the rest of the native lands in Australia into a large reserve with the resources to both purchase the land, maintain it, and obtain the lawyers needed to protect it for as long as possible.

Then kick back on your reserve, bitches.

if some company is willing to pay BILLIONS for it..... then I'll be they're going to be willing to do whatever it takes to get it anyhow when he refuses.

something that valuable, he needs to sell it before it gets taken for nothing.

seriously, go buy some different fucking land. people move. his ancestors originally all came from somewhere else, anyhow.

Bull-fucking-shit. What are the odds that the Australian government immediately grants mining rights once he has it incorporated into the national forest? I'd say probably pretty fucking good. Sorry in advance, Jeff.

Most of Africa is devoid of valuable resources... like water. It's a dump of a continent. Hard to build a log cabin without any fucking logs.

Also, black people are inherently inferior.

McDanger, if this $5 billion land was in Alabama, and the guy who they offered the $5b to was some redneck white bible thumper whose reason for not selling the land was because he believed he had a grave responsibility to protect the land of his Christian lineage from harm

your opinion would be a complete 180

how come its cool and awesome when one person has a dumb ass religious/spiritual belief, but not another?

haha, thats your problem, you think all things spiritual are false
its like calling all politicians liars, its a nice sound bite but its far from true
fact is there is some connection he and his people have to the land that we cannot understand, and i'd give him the benefit of the doubt considering he's ABORIGINE
