I never have a problem with skateboarders who are just using it to get around between classes. Never come close to being hit or any of that, and I usually see them being decently careful. Cyclists are far more of an annoyance, and I'm glad I don't normally see many of them.

Now, the high schoolers who come to campus just to fuck around on the stairs and rails and shit... them, I could do without. Still don't support banning the things, though. Some people DO use skateboards to get to class, and that should be allowed.

As a person who used to skate here while I was in high school and a little in college, I have to say that this won't change anything. This will only hurt those that skate to class. I've never received a ticket from NCSU and have been asked dozens of times to leave. The cops get less aggravated at a 22 year old pushing around and more towards the 8 yo packs of chil'ins, anyways. They used to try to scare me off and the last few times I was told that, "I have to kick you out."

All they really need to do is man up and start writing actual tickets. I sure as hell wouldn't to skate somewhere where I'm guaranteed a $55 fine. Besides, most skateboarders only skate on saturdays/breaks, when the security cops are almost nonexistent, anyways.

we sure as shit should ban things that are:

1. fucking up the aesthetics of campus. No one wants fucking paint lines all over every low curb, wall or handrail
2. dangerous to people walking to class
3. gay (this mainly applies to longboards)

that would be a personal experience type of stat, I'll admit it.

This reminds me of the ban on smoking indoors. Action is taken that improves the lives and health of everyone and the small minority is up in arms bitching about it. Guess what people, you're still banned! GTFO!

GOD I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I'VE ALMOST HAD MY ANKLES BROKEN

furiously masturbating to the curiously specific implied threat of getting my ankles broken by skateboarders

posting about it on the internet

that's exactly why I made that comment, though I haven't smoked in over a year, and haven't skated in probably 5 or 6 years

i used a skateboard in college to get around from place to place, didn't harm anybody or any property (and no, it wasn't a longboard). if you aren't an idiot, you can get around campus fine without causing any problems

I know two people who got hit by pedestrians on campus while they were riding their bikes. The threat of being knocked off your bike (perhaps even close lined) is too great. I don't think we should allow anyone to walk on campus. It's just too big of a threat.

hey guyz! ITT we compare the dangers of fast moving bodies on wheels to the dangers of slow moving bodies on feet!

let's be rational here, you skate fags.

I, too, skateboarded simply to get around faster when I lived on campus. The bricks, super shitty sidewalks, and heavy foot traffic made that a short-lived endeavor.

It's just plain retarded that they'd ban a simple method of transportation. Don't know how I feel about the on-campus recreational skaters, using the stairs and rails and whatnot. But for the people just trying to get around when they have ~15 min to get from one side of campus to the other, this is unfair. But really, at what point in the last decade did Raleigh really give a shit what students thought?

Do you walk around campus holding your arms out or something?

These people were riding at a normal pace down a public street when BAM! some fool jetted right out in front of them from behind a parked vehicle. I'm telling you man, pedestrians are dangerous and all accidents are avoidable as long as we create ordinances to rule out every possible threat.

"^Yeh, but there were many times where I was about to step left, or right on the sidewalk and someone would com zipping past me at high speeds. I was inches away from having my ankles broken. My guess is that someone finally was hit by a skateboarder, or someone complained when they almost were." - Big4Country
1. If you hear a skateboarder coming from behind you, walk straight like a normal pedestrian, and the skateboarder will ride around you. How would you like it if you were riding through campus and someone walked out in your path at the last second? 2. This thread is bullshit, and the story on the news was bullshit. Cops haven't banned skateboarding; they are just enforcing laws on destruction more strongly. 3. Also, I think people should realize that the skateboarders who do it consistently and who you may recognize are not a problem; they have a true passion for the sport and get a little exercise on their way to class while enjoying their past time (unlike pedestrians). *not trying to talk shit on everyone that walks to class obviously but to the ones who hate those "pesky skateboarders."

Whenever I ride my bike these days (and also when I used to skate my way around UNCC), I always yell out to let people know when I'm passing them.

well if there are too many people to call out to, you shouldn't be zipping around at 15mph
