I like Glocks, but I'm scared to carry them regularly with a round in the chamber.I can draw, aim and disengage the thumb safety on my Taurus PT145 within about 1-1.5 seconds. My biggest gripe with Glocks has always been their trigger "safety". At least with XDs you have the added rear grip safety.

are there any shooting ranges round here? i need to fire a gun at least once in my lifeand how much does it cost?
4/7/2010 1:32:41 PM
my brother in law has an arsenal. he takes me shooting, but we do it out in bumfuck on family property.

^ Yeah, that's also a good choice if you need really good concealability and can sacrifice some capacity. I still don't trust Kahr as much as a Glock, but I definitely think they're a good pistol.

Currently down to 9 firearms had to sell some to fund my jeep project. The only "scary" looking gun I have is a Cobray Terminator 12 ga. Maybe i should get a tacticool stock for my 10-22.[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 1:52 PM. Reason : e]

^^I guess its just my personal preference...and I've practiced quick draw and shoot techniques while target shooting and I'm comfortable with my setupWhen someone asks me to recommend a gun for them, I always tell them to go to the gun shop and handle a lot of them...see what they like, as people have different preferences]

lafta: PDHSC http://www.goshoot.com is close to Raleigh. It is in Garner, off of tryon.Range fee is $15, +$1 per target that you use. Then if you rent a gun it is $5 per, and you have to buy their ammo. For someone who goes in with nothing, and wants to shoot, expect $60 for an hour.It is best to have someone bring you, and teach you first before you go.

^^ Note that I'm just reiterating a point, I know you're aware that it's not going to fire unless the trigger is pulled. My point is that Glocks are VERY safe to carry with a round in the chamber. A lack of training, competence or focus is what can make it dangerous (But then it does not matter what you're carrying in my opinion, which again demonstrates that it's not the Glock that is dangerous). As you say there, different folks have different preferences, but the Glock design is extremely safe and much of the safety comes from its simplicity in terms of usage. No worries about accidentally leaving it in "SA mode" (There is none obviously) by forgetting to de-cock it like you might do with a Sig, particularly if you're new to firearms or just not paying attention (I love Sigs, but they are obviously slightly more complex to operate). Not that this is something I'd call extremely dangerous, but it certainly means you've got somewhat of a hair trigger going on and you wouldn't want anything touching it. That trigger safety on a Glock does actually work pretty well. You have to really get something all the way in there and it has to be large in diameter to press the trigger down near the bottom and not the top. Like I said, as long as it's in a holster that completely protects the trigger, you have nothing to worry about with a Glock IMO. ]

My T3 is a Lite in 308 win.Great deer gun but I would have prefered 260Rem (the one I got was used and a hell of a deal).I went to Montana for my honeymoon and a shop had a stainless T3 Varmint in 223rem on sale for $550.I almost bought it...and would have if it was a 308. It was hard to say no

hoe you ain't even got a pistol yet
4/8/2010 7:21:15 PM
Mine is a .223, I've used it for deer before. It takes a perfect shot, but I really do like it as a deer rifle. Legally...if memory serves its the smallest caliber allowed for deer hunting
4/8/2010 7:28:28 PM
I only have a shotgun, but I am going to buy a CCW as soon as I find one I like.

Glock 27 is going to be in my arsenal soon...
4/8/2010 7:55:26 PM
there is no restriction on rifle caliber for deer hunting in NC. however, i would consider it unethical to shoot at a deer with a bullet that small. you would most likely injure the deer and never find it if it did die.

i am a gun owner and collector i would say. i do not know how many i own and dont really think listing them on the internet is a smart idea. but i do carry a kimber or sig every day. i own a fair number of 1st generation SAA's. SAA's are what i am into collecting. i have turned all my NFA paperwork in for suppressor for one the AR's. my next gun purchase will be a MP5SD or a plain on navy MP5K. i am glad to see all the gun owners here. i always considered this place to be a bit liberal.
4/8/2010 9:38:22 PM
i'm liberal, i have guns.
4/8/2010 9:51:12 PM
i do.......2 right now plus the many ones the gov gives me to play with
4/8/2010 10:20:45 PM
the liberals just happen to be the loudest. I'd think the majority of posters here are conservative to moderate.I own 3 handguns, 2 shotguns, and three rifles. My next purchase will either be a Benelli Super Black Eagle or a Ruger Mark II.

i just think it's unethical to go out with a small caliber like that when you have plenty of options that will put a deer down instantly with good shot placement.[Edited on April 9, 2010 at 2:45 PM. Reason : so they make .223 rounds designed for large game?]
4/9/2010 2:45:03 PM
yeah, they make Nosler Partitions and all kinds of other stuff. I agree, I think it's not a great idea...but it's workable.
4/9/2010 2:56:26 PM
We reload our own hunting loads, I don't know enough about it to talk intelligibly about it but I know we have some that are specifically for large game. I've never had a problem deer hunting with the .223, I've killed 3 with it, 1 of them died 10 yards from where I shot her, and the 2 others I found within 20 minutes.
4/9/2010 2:59:09 PM
what kinda range were they at?
4/9/2010 3:01:06 PM
I don't remember specifics, but I only take shots from a pretty close range with the .223, probably less than 60 yards or so. And I only use it when I have no other options (typically only on Thanksgiving day in VA when my entire family wants to hunt and we run low on rifles, I take it cause I feel that I'm the best one in the family to use it).Edit:Actually, I've only ever used it for deer on Thanksgiving day, the last 3 years running actually. I also like to take it cause in VA you can shoot a turkey with a rifle and they open the season for one day on Thanksgiving.[Edited on April 9, 2010 at 3:05 PM. Reason : ^]
