I have an HP-41 calculator that is almost 30 years old and still working fine. I have an HP-48 calculator that is 15 years old and works well as long as it has a fresh batteries in it. I have an HP-50 calculator that is 5 years old and doesn't read button presses half the time. I've had good luck with their printers, but I've heard plenty of horror stories about their laptops.

k, now run two apps at the same time

apparently apple's releasing a multitasking patch sometime in the summer
4/25/2010 3:40:47 AM
iphone os 4 has multitaskingit will go into the ipad in short orderbtw, no one has addressed the fact that this HP is advertised as getting ~5 hours of battery lifewhen the ipad gets 12 in real world use

I just don't understand the lengths that some people will go to to hate on something just because it's the cool thing to do. You say you can't print or download a file? (There are ways to do both, btw) If those are the things you're really looking to do then maybe you should be looking at a different type of product. The iPad doesn't make coffee either, but my $20 coffee maker from walmart does. OMG! Apple pwnt by Hamilton Beach!!!111

eh I just don't see the point in the iPad, though it'd be cool if you could basically use it like a Wacom tablet with Photoshop.
4/25/2010 4:55:34 AM
^ Not quite there, but there's an Adobe Ideas app, which basically lets you sketch with your fingers. And there's still the PS Lite app for iPhone, which works on the iPad.
4/25/2010 7:48:11 AM
Yeah neither of those will do you any good if you want to do actual graphic design

... i think you meant technophobe
4/25/2010 8:57:16 AM
basically what El Nachó said. i'm not trying to be the great Apple crusader or something, but i think the iPad has a cool utility to it for me. on a regular basis i'm lugging my laptop around my apartment just so i can tool around with e-mail, twitter, this forsaken site and other web stuff. at this point i see it as the best thing out there for that purpose (the battery life, decent screen size and it does perform all your basic needs for the actions i mentioned.. except Flash). the Flash stuff is for another 50+ page thread in tech talk, but i'm not too worried about it.

The ipad is lame. The HP Slate is also pretty lame. To quote myself from the thread in tech talk:

Okay, Chet.

As much as I want there to be an iPad beater, I'll admit the HP slate isn't it.The only device that could possibly beat the iPad in it's own niche is an identical device, made and marketed by Google. It would run android and possibly have a few more features like a true USB port and a camera.[Edited on April 25, 2010 at 10:46 . Reason : .]

Tablet technology is pretty exciting because it brings us closer to an all-purpose portable computer that even old people could use effectively (assuming people take the "application" approach Apple has as opposed to running some full-fledged OS)
4/25/2010 11:20:15 AM
Joojoo was the ipad killer, came out, and it sucks balls. Slate was the ipad killer, reviews came out, and it sucks balls. On to the courier!Bold assertion: Appealing to Apple-hating nerds does not create a good device or lead to success.[Edited on April 25, 2010 at 12:02 PM. So basically, every tablet sucks balls
4/25/2010 12:33:05 PM
Basically get a ASUS 1005 netbook.
