isnt that where all the gay people hang out?
4/11/2010 10:11:46 PM
i believe i will check out the borough soon[Edited on April 11, 2010 at 10:12 PM. Reason : ]
4/11/2010 10:11:52 PM
yes, gay people hang out there but it is not a gay bar.
4/11/2010 10:13:49 PM
its not an advertised "gay bar" but its a gay bar
4/11/2010 10:14:34 PM
eh to each is own. i don't really see it as a gay bar as i've seen/met plenty of straight people there. i think its a spot favorited by gay people but i don't really consider it a "gay" bar.
4/11/2010 10:15:33 PM
I dunno, it's owned by a lesbian couple as far as i know. It's not officially a gay bar, but everybody that goes there knows it's gay-friendly. (not that there's any issue with that at all)and I whole-heartedly agree with this:

the first time i ever dealt with assholes flicking cigs over the balcony, the hilarious combination of chris powers/sugar put a stop to it...AWESOMElike i said, it's a cool place and it's unfortunate that fratty assholes keep me from going there on a regular basisBTW, the borough is certainly not owned by a lesbian couple, though that's a hilarious notion
4/12/2010 3:57:54 AM
what was that bar that opened recently that struck up all the conversation about whether or not televisions/music in bars hinders conversation? it had that great patio view of downtown raleigh
4/12/2010 8:07:23 AM
The Boylan Brewpub. I still havent been there.
4/12/2010 8:16:16 AM
last week some guy projectiled onto slim's patio. good thing there was no one out there, because the guy was definitely going for distance.
4/12/2010 9:12:28 AM
4/12/2010 9:22:11 AM
^ That's what I'd heard. Thanks for the confirmation.
4/12/2010 9:43:22 AM
jadn, you should read that thread about Boylan Brew Pubits lols
4/12/2010 11:27:37 AM
The Borough is the best place in Raleigh.
4/12/2010 12:48:00 PM
BBP sucksI heart the busy bee/hive because of the staff. The crowd can get a little nuts at time, but the music during the week is the tits. Thursday nights are a good night to go in.I haven't been to Isaac Hunters yet either.Oh and I do love the Borough, but I have tits and the gays think I'm fabulous. Landmark is pretty chill as well[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 1:26 PM. Reason : e]

Natty Greene's coming in pretty much makes Boylan Bridge irrelevant.
4/12/2010 1:27:22 PM
I checked out Natty's for the first time this Saturday. From what I remember it was a good time, but I had been drinking since 10:30 that morning, so my memory may be a little bit foggy.I do remember it being a little fratty (but I'm ok with that)
4/12/2010 1:28:36 PM
Natty Greene's is Buckhead without the deafening musicI don't care what anybody says, I still <3 BBB
4/12/2010 1:31:18 PM
Natty's was really fratty when I wentlove the shuffleboard table thoughonly been in Isaac Hunter's for a drink... the whole place smelled like piss and it was grossing me out
4/12/2010 1:33:20 PM
when we went to Natty Greene's you could barely walk it was so crowdedbut the shuffleboard table was still openthat tells you all you need to know about the crowd there(that and the fact that Raleigh needs more bars with a shuffleboard table)

4/12/2010 1:39:50 PM
FUCK Boylan Brewpub or what-the-fuck-ever it's called. Best view in town, worst everything else. Food sucks. Beer sucks. Service sucks. Hell, even the crowd sucks most of the time.Natty Greene's is good because they brew their own beer and it's actually pretty good. Food is halfway decent. No other business can touch that quality as far as good location, good beer, decent food and an eclectic crowd. That's what I wish Raleigh could have: A great brewpub. There's nothing out there. Hell, I would even settle for a great brewery. All we have is Big Boss, which is okay, but nowhere near great, beer.
4/12/2010 1:42:14 PM
I did enjoy Natty's beer. And we should have a shuffleboard shuffle off.
4/12/2010 1:49:03 PM
^^ LoneRider says hello, not to mention all the breweries out in Fuquay/Holly Springs, etc. ]
4/12/2010 1:49:29 PM
4/12/2010 1:49:46 PM
LoneRider is shit. You hear me, LoneRider? Your beer is shit. There is not a single *great* brewery in the Raleigh area. You go to Asheville, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an outstanding, world-class brewery.
4/12/2010 1:52:41 PM
The Hive, Times, Landmark, Foundation, and Issac Hunters are definitely my favorite "out out" bars in town, hand down.however, if I'm going to watch a game or just chill with the guys, Mission Valley is ftw

im always up for a good game of indie people watching
4/12/2010 3:33:11 PM
^^I've had one or two of their beers, they were good but like Asheville Pizza and Green Man not GREAT.[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 3:33 PM. Reason : .]
4/12/2010 3:33:33 PM
I'll tell you this, every single one of the beers that I've had from Catawba is way better than anything I've had from Big Boss....and BB is supposed to the end-all-be-all of Raleigh beers.give me a break.
4/12/2010 3:40:05 PM
Big Boss Bad Penny is delicious
4/12/2010 3:41:08 PM
Who said BB was the best beer in Raleigh?I'm a BB fan, but they're not even the best beer in town, not by a long shot.
4/12/2010 3:43:02 PM
^^Bad Penny is okay, but not nearly as tasty as some of the beers you'll find out West (hell even Western NC).^care to enlighten us, or are you just going to posture?[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 3:43 PM. Reason : ?]
4/12/2010 3:43:22 PM
Well I don't want to get off topic too far, but I prefer Lonerider. YOu've already expressed your opinion about their beers, and that's fine.I'll agree that Raleigh's breweries aren't GREAT, but it's better than some areas. You can't expect us to have a Bell's or Allagash quality brewery here - the scene is too young and not mature enough yet.
4/12/2010 3:48:29 PM
4/12/2010 3:49:11 PM
I just mentioned BB because everyone suckles their balls, but I'm not really a big fan to tell you the truth. If it's between a Bad Penny and a Bud Light though, BP every time. And I agree, CBC might be the best in this immediate area.

^ Yeah I just now noticed that he replied to that. Don't shoot the messenger, it's just what I'd heard from multiple sources. If it's wrong, it's wrong, and I apologize for that.

^^^ not calling you out, my point was that it's a widespread and specific rumor for whatever reason, i've heard it from multiple sources myselfin other news, it is an awesome baryes, there are a lot of gay people there, and they're awesomethey (well a couple of them) set me up with my girlfriend[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 4:33 PM. 4/12/2010 4:24:23 PM
Oh no, I didn't think you were calling me out. I was just using the "dont shoot the messenger" phrase in the loosest way possible.
