I have paid a lot more than $150 for a tasting menu. My sad sad record is $300 after tip for one of the best restaurants in Nice. I really wanted to go to Alain Ducasses's restaurant, but that was going to set me back $1000 for two. I think the next closest was around $200 per, but most seem to be in the $100-$150 range, including wine about 50% of the time.As I have more sense now, I try to limit these type of excursions to once or twice a year, because these meals take money away I can spend in more fun places.

I have had the pleasure of eating at the French Laundry in California and as expensive as it was, it was worth so much more. Earlier in this thread someone mentioned eating in Charleston a lot, McCrady's is down there and besides the French Laundry its the best place i have ever had a meal at in the U.S. Sean Brock is a friend and an inspiration in cooking to me, not my style but he is certainly doing big things. If anybody is down there I highly recommend checking out his ever changing tasting menu

I've heard good things about McCrady's! They have a chef's tasting for $75, plus an extra $60 for wine pairings. sounds like a bargain compared to some of those places!! They also have a regular menu. I'd love to go but I don't think anyone would want to spend that cheddar to go with me http://www.mccradysrestaurant.com/food.html
