Your husband is probably pissed because you told him you were going to the doctor twice and didn't go either time. Hes probably worried about you AND tired of hearing about it. He probably thinks you're an idiot for not doing anything to remedy the problem. IE; not going to the doctor twice AND won't even take a vitamin comprised of essential nutrients.

how the hell do so many people have a vitamin D deficiency?!

the research studies I've read say that ~10-30 minutes of sun exposure (no sunscreen) 2x a week will lead to sufficient vitamin D synthesis

SO GO OUTSIDE AND TAKE A GOD DAMN WALK.

That's why I put this on here: we don't really care about 1) the big stuff (as in, fighting over it.) 2) TWW is an excellent venue for this: the TWW collective is stubborn, know-it-all, and something of an asshole...like we each are being on this issue. It's both amusing and telling that the replies to this have not been strongly skewed in either direction. If the responses had been definitively skewed, that would have served as sign to one party that maybe their stance needs re-examination. Hence: TWW.

You already knew the answer that TWW was going to give you before you ever posted this thread.

In your case: take a fucking vitamin from GNC and stop being a little bitch.
If it was them: FULL MEDICAL VISIT TO A SPECIALIST PAID FOR BY INSURANCE.

I would suggest giving your husband some head tonight. That will soothe over any hurt feelings.

Wow. 2 pages?

On the one hand, do whatever you want for whatever reason you want -- it's your body.
But on the other hand, it's just a fucking vitamin! Your husband is right -- taking one vitamin is benign... you might as well.

I can imagine you telling your doctor about this, and them saying, "Well, did you try it? Did it help?"

So it sounds like every chick with a "deficiency" needs to get outside for a walk and lose 20 lbs. Problem solved.

Also - the only reason your husband is pissed is because you lied to his face (twice) about seeing a Doctor. Go say that you are sorry.

Not necessarily true. The two people who I know with a vitamin D deficiency such that it warrants doctor ordered supplementation are in fantastic shape (one is a physical therapist) and spend a good amount of time outside.

There are a number of things other than a lack of dietary nutrition that cause vitamin deficiencies.

i'll assume you ask your doctor for sources for all their prescriptions for you as well?

and also i'll check back after wednesday to see that you've addressed the multivitamin/vitaminD/etc ideas presented in this thread after checking with a qualified person

I actually started having problems well after I lost 20 pounds. So basically.... stfu because you don't know what you're talking about.

Exactly.. such as the type of medicine you have to take.

sure GGMon , but it could also be something else health threatening, like iron deficiency anemia. that link you posted is a bunch of anecdotal evidence anyway.

Modern reports suggest just about everyone is deficient in Vitamin D to some degree unless you work outside on a daily basis. 1000 units a day is good, but 5,000 a day or 50,000 once a week is really necessary if you have been tested and proven deficient. Medicap in Falls Village sells 50,000 unit D3 softgels without a prescription, which is better absorbed than the prescription D2 50,000 IU. 100ct goes for about $30, a small price to pay for a 2 year supply. Just make sure to have your levels tested every few months, as the fat-soluble vitamin can eventually reach toxic levels if overused. I've had many middle-aged individuals claim drastic increases in energy & overall well-being after a few weeks of taking the supplement.

ehhh this is kind of true.

most current research shows that ~75% of Americans have insufficient levels, but are not necessarily deficient. there's also a debate concerning what the lower limit of vitamin D levels should be (20 or 30 ng/ml), so that 75% can be even more skewed depending on which lower limit is used.

all most people need is a few minutes of sunlight a few times a week (without sunscreen). many cereals are also fortified with vitamin D, and fatty fish are a good natural source.
