The Pit is only worth going to at lunch time when the prices are literally half the dinner price for the same portion. Ribs are the hit. Pulled pork is pretty good. The rest is just meh.[Edited on August 5, 2010 at 3:09 PM. Reason : 2]

yes, the pit is not badbut five blocks down davie street i can get better bbq for half the priceand i don't have to deal with out of towners or yuppie douches ]
8/5/2010 3:20:03 PM
Some people love it because you're getting decent bbq in a hip downtown location. Some people hate it because it's only decent bbq and there aren't any wooden sculptures of pigs riding tractors.
8/5/2010 3:20:29 PM
ITT nobody recognizes the monetary value of atmosphere at an eatery.
8/5/2010 3:42:18 PM
^dingdingding I got into a fight once at the Pit with an ex about this topic. He said it was overpriced and too snobby (I paid). I just wanted a nice, peaceful meal and to watch the taping of Man vs Food. Just because its BBQ doesn't mean it has to be gross.
8/5/2010 4:02:46 PM

I like The Pit because they have BBQ Turkey.
8/5/2010 4:26:29 PM
Who the hell wants to date women who only feel comfortable eating in dumpholes and can't handle the atmosphere of a nice restaurant.Have fun dating Red Lobster women... I bet she'll think its real romantical when you stick that engagement ring in a hushpuppie for her.
8/5/2010 4:27:48 PM
y'all can make some insignificant shit sound like the most important thing in the worldopinionswe all have them
8/5/2010 4:29:44 PM
What?I like nice restaurants, so does my girlfriend, but I don't think either of us need the restaurant to be nice by your very narrow definition of nice, as long as the food is good. Lily's Pizza fucking rules and it's a total shithole.[Edited on August 5, 2010 at 4:31 PM. Reason : .]
8/5/2010 4:31:31 PM
oh look another stupid bbq thread

8/5/2010 4:34:59 PM
The only Pit bbq I've had is that which is in the pork nachos at The Times (which they've been out of the last 3 fucking times I've been )
8/5/2010 4:35:55 PM
8/5/2010 4:36:31 PM
^^ same. looking forward to the entire meal based on that
8/5/2010 4:37:34 PM
the absence of pork at the times has been troublingit's so bad that jay has taken to posting on facebook when they DO have it
8/5/2010 4:39:02 PM
they need to get their shit rightthe pork nachos are part of the reason why I go there so often[Edited on August 5, 2010 at 4:42 PM. Reason : [-]
8/5/2010 4:42:08 PM
Just for the record, the top local place that "looks like shit, but makes delicious food" is Bali Hai and I will fight people to the death over that.
8/5/2010 4:43:28 PM
The Pit is overrated and overpriced.
8/5/2010 4:43:46 PM
for once the grumpy old guy is right
8/5/2010 4:44:20 PM
8/5/2010 4:46:04 PM
this also applied to biscuit station before it closed
8/5/2010 4:51:23 PM
^^^ Oh, I'm right quite a bit more often than that. One day, you'll come around. [Edited on August 5, 2010 at 4:58 PM. Reason : Do you know The Pit's staff? ]
8/5/2010 4:57:25 PM
a know a few folks who work there, mostly bartenders
8/5/2010 4:59:55 PM
i just had a BBQ sandwich from Cookout.............suck my dick
8/5/2010 5:27:15 PM
I love their bbq tray... 4 bucks and you get the bbq, slaw, hush puppies, and fries-and that'll fill you up!
8/5/2010 5:28:12 PM
cookout bbq
8/5/2010 5:29:42 PM
not a damn thing wrong with it in my opinion (just needs a little hot sauce- then again, I think almost everything does)
8/5/2010 5:31:26 PM
My main problem is that the bun is invariably soaked by the time I end up eating the bbq sandwich, and soggy buns are terrible
8/5/2010 5:35:20 PM
< insert joke about soggy buns >
8/5/2010 5:36:46 PM
Unless something bad happened since the last time I was there, almost a year - I thought the food was pretty tasty.
8/5/2010 8:43:22 PM
The pit is pretty delicious, but you're literally paying 200% more for food so you can eat it in a pretty room. That's the only difference. The full service bar also makes it a bit different than most bbq places.
