even golf which i say bores me and that i hate (to watch) if i turn it on......6 hours go by and i'm still sitting there like FUCK what did i do all day? watched golf. so i like most sports and once i sit down to watch them i'll probably somehow get invested even if i don't want to (like with golf )

Honestly, the England - US game was the longest bit of soccer I've ever watched. I'm into the normal sports (Football, Baseball, MMA) just as much as the next guy. But those fuckers are tough. Sure they don't wear pads and aren't slamming each other to the ground, but still. I'd like to look at who has the strongest pound for pound kick... a MMA fighter or a world class soccer player.

Reasons soccer is great:1) ties2) no pads, no helmets, no time-outs3) the most simultaneous players (?)4) anticipation and climax (hey ladies )
6/12/2010 6:34:32 PM
MMA is a normal sport??its not on my listi think its ~

Soccer trolling ITT?Actually, I never cared for it and bitched about it when I was younger but dated a girl who was super in to it and played for like traveling teams up until I met her and she got me in to it.I guess it's an acquired taste for a lot of Americans, but I absolutely grew to love it. Sports like tennis and/or golf I never got in to watching (I think they are boring but I do play tennis) but I don't complain about them like they personally insulted me.
6/12/2010 6:41:27 PM
6/12/2010 6:46:44 PM
wrong.the average american would rather watch nascar Soccer is rarely about matches and more about seasons/tournamentsI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.[Edited on June 12, 2010 at 6:51 PM. Reason : ]

i actually like watching tennisgolfi'd rather die. i absolutely loathe playing it. unless there's a golf cart. and beer. i'd prefer drinks at the driving range though. less walking. more drinking. and MMAstill ~ in my book.and i don't order things on pay per view. so. i can't really enter into that argument.BUT i will say the one redneck i know told me today he doesn't like soccer because it isn't "american"so i mean, whatev. i don't give a shit about a lot of olympic sports but when the olympics come around i'm glued to the tv for like, speed skating.[Edited on June 12, 2010 at 6:53 PM. It probably helps if you've played it as well. I enjoy watching soccer because I grew up watching soccer. I used to hate watching tennis, then I began playing tennis towards the end of high school, really enjoyed playing it, then started to like watching it as well. Plus, the world cup you can cheer for USA, its like the Olympics, we get to stick it to other countries.
6/12/2010 6:53:49 PM
China is supposed to be kicking our ass. But where is their World Cup team? Yeah that's right. USA #1.

I mean, I get that some people may dislike MMA. But I think that MMA is a more popular sport in the US than Soccer.
6/12/2010 7:06:02 PM
popular how?on PPV? ok you winbut i don't see the YMCA offering MMA leagues for kids. as a recreational sport that people actually play, soccer wins.
6/12/2010 7:07:06 PM
Hahaha, this guy is funny.
6/12/2010 7:09:04 PM
MMA is the more popular sport to watch in the US, not to play.
6/12/2010 7:11:21 PM
MMA is ~Bunch of grown ass men rolling around on the floor in their underwear.

Both soccer and MMA suck. It's watching people walk around a field for 90 minutes vs. watching a bunch of dudes hug for 3-5 minutes at a time.Either way it's boring as sin.

I'm not even sure that it's trolling. I think he's just a parody of himself and doesn't recognize it. In that sense, all the rest of us are trolls for even talking to or about him.

First all all - females don't count. They watch soccer do get all moist from the dirty dunhill smoking "men". for the men who claim to be fans - how is my challenge going? Some long half when your not buzzed I bet.
6/13/2010 2:02:31 PM
Step up your game, man. Not bringing anything original to the table.

eh once again it comes down to different opinions. I wrestled (multiple styles) for 12 years of my life and MMA is ridiculously boring for me to watch. Not saying anything about competing in it but it is just a complete snoozefest on tv for me. But soccer is generally really exciting for me to watch. different strokes.
6/13/2010 4:04:01 PM
6/13/2010 4:06:55 PM
MMA is okay to be honest. when it's a couple of guys beating the shit out of each other I'll watch it for a while and be somewhat entertained. Not as much as if I were watching a good basketball/football game, but more than if I were watching a soccer game.
6/13/2010 4:07:21 PM
I have yet to watch a World Cup game while drinking (I've watched 4 full games now). However, I have been 3 or 4 drinks deep every time i have tried to watch the NBA Finals, and still can't stand to pay attention for more than about 5 minutes.
6/13/2010 4:28:58 PM
6/13/2010 5:21:05 PM
NFL games can end in a tie... so that's not a real sport now either. Duly noted.
6/13/2010 5:29:08 PM
they don't end in a tie in the playoffs, when you're trying to determine a true champion. Out of 500 games in a season, you might see a game end in a tie once every two-three seasons. Even Hockey has figured out that no one wants to see a tie.[Edited on June 13, 2010 at 5:34 PM. Reason : .]
6/13/2010 5:33:28 PM
Soccer doesn't end in a tie in the playoffs (knockout round) either.[Edited on June 13, 2010 at 5:35 PM. Reason : .]
6/13/2010 5:34:41 PM
soccer doesn't end in a tie either in similar situations
6/13/2010 5:34:59 PM
so you're saying these games we're watching are pointless games that aren't really a part of a tournament elimination system?
6/13/2010 5:37:47 PM
I don't get the big deal about drawsSeasons and tournaments are more than a single game[Edited on June 13, 2010 at 5:39 PM. Reason : eleusis doesn't understand the (very simple) system he's trying to criticize]
6/13/2010 5:38:24 PM
^^ so you're saying you're an obtuse idiot?
6/13/2010 5:40:30 PM
Basically, the games played now determine who gets to enter the elimination round of 16. Think of it as the super-condensed regular season of any other sport. You play everyone in your division, and whoever has the most points at the end advances to the playoffs. So no, these games are not part of a tournament elimination system in as much as the NFL regular season isn't technically part of the NFL playoffs. It matters, as to who gets into the playoffs, but winning or losing doesn't automatically eliminate anyone.
6/13/2010 5:43:28 PM
6/13/2010 5:50:55 PM
So most games come down to penalty kicks. That would be like in the World Series, stopping the game and deciding the championship in a home run derby.it is a flawed, dull as fuck sport.
6/13/2010 5:53:05 PM
most games come down to penalty kicks? I know you're trolling but for other people who might be foolish enough to believe you: in the 16 knockout round games at the 2006 WC, only 3 came down to penalty kicks I think and in 2002 only 2 of those 16 games ended in penalty kicks. There were also 64 goals scored over all the games I'm mentioning as well. The knockout round is a different dynamic.[Edited on June 13, 2010 at 5:59 PM. Reason : ]
