well you better go arrest her!

people are idiots, or trolls. probably the latter...but i'll chime in anyway....i was just keeping him in a box overnight so he had time to rest before i put him back out this morning. if he died indoors, it was okay he was going to die anyway if i left him out there. he's awake, alive, breathing this morning so i'm about to go out and put him in the neighbor's bushes where most of the baby bunnies come from.the cat was just playing w/ him. if she wanted to kill him, he'd have been dead. she has a giant bowl of food on the front porch, about 10' from where this all happened. i wouldn't normally chase down the cat and take whatever it is she's terrorizing from her, but it was a really really cute baby animal, and i'm a girl...so...yeah.there's no rehabilitation or anything going on here. i didn't feed him from a bottle, give him a heating pad, etc. just a snuggly safe place for him to rest for the night.[Edited on June 21, 2010 at 7:50 AM. huh? i've had several outdoor cats over the years, all hunted, and they'd either play with the bird/rabbit/frog/etc or kill it and bring it to the porch. i've watched one of my cats stalk and take down a rabbit bigger than she was, just to gut it and leave it to die while she laid next to it.

yeah, i know that. i was an animal science major. the bunny was barely alive, barely breathing, not moving, just laying there exhausted. the cat had plenty of time to finish him off, she just wasn't interested anymore. i picked him up and he was limp, didn't bother to squirm or do anything. i thought he was dead already. since you were there, how about you tell me more about it
6/21/2010 9:43:06 AM
yayyyy bunny!!!! i'm glad he made it through the night.did you stick him back outside? i'm going to call about the hawk in a little bit here
6/21/2010 11:42:21 AM
think tank mascot I am sensing
6/21/2010 11:45:43 AM
update: he made it through the night!!!! being transferred to the carolina raptor place in charlotte so he can be specially rehabilitated with other hawks and know he is a hawk. receptionist couldn't tell me what was wrong with him (or if they even found out yet). i think his wing was probably broken or SOMETHING since he couldn't fly at all and barely even spread them out fully. but either way, he made it.i wasn't sure since he didn't put up much of a fight letting us get him and the flies were all over him yay hawk!!!! but sadly since he's being transferred this is probably the last update i'll get on him. unless i call the raptor center and ask about a young hawk from the triangle wildlife rehab place. if they aren't sending any other birdies up there with him maybe they'd know the hawk i was talking about. meh. i'm just glad he's getting help![Edited on June 21, 2010 at 11:48 AM. yes! he was very frisky this morning, actually escaped in the house for a couple of seconds. i took him to the bush where he's most likely from, behind a lump of pinestraw, and he slowly hopped off under the bushes more. finally, a happy ending to something! everything has gone to shit for me lately.
6/21/2010 11:48:12 AM
how awesome is it that animal control is pretty much inseparable from a mobile animal Auschwitzjust be glad you didn't call any PETA offices, their kill rate is up there with small pox and rabies
6/21/2010 11:48:57 AM
^^ YAY!!!! awesome ^ yea there was no way in hell i was calling animal control. i mean - aren't they just for rabid raccoons? haha.and my last choice would have been an e-vet who could at least hold him or humanely euthanizeBUT i wanted to try to find a wildlife place to take him YESTERDAY (sunday) and i did and got lucky that the bird lady was in AND now they're transferring him to charlotte.oh happy day!
6/21/2010 11:52:08 AM
i love birds of prey. i really hope you have some pix
6/21/2010 11:58:15 AM
same - that is why i wanted to help him. i don't care about regular birds as much haha. and yea i do. not of the rescue (cause all 3 of us were needed) but i have a pic of him chillin on a bench in our back yard. i'll stop being lazy and post it in a bit its not the greatest picture. my brother took it but you can see how big he was. actually, the picture makes him look smaller than he was. when my dad showed it to me (the picture) and was like "look what was in our back yard this morning" i was like "oh a baby hawk"then when i actually saw him he was young ("juvenile") but NOT the size i thought he was in the pic.awwwww he was so pretty. but i feel like he's gonna make it. at least that is how the story is ending in my mind [Edited on June 21, 2010 at 12:00 PM. just emailed the rehab people at the raptor center to hopefully get an update on the little guy. he was supposed to be transferred there last week. so hopefully i'll hear something. i mean if i don't its ok cause it obviously isn't my pet. i'd just like to know if he made it there and if he is doing alright/what his prognosis is haha.

Goodnight Sweet Hawk
6/30/2010 4:30:34 PM
is that even a hawk??
6/30/2010 4:33:08 PM
i guess im not down with animal words but i'd have different hopes for a "raptor center"
6/30/2010 4:37:52 PM
hahaha. like velociraptor?also its weird because when we caught her she was running all around. eventually she stopped and sat down in a bush where we scooped her up with a shovel. so it seems odd that she had "very little use of her legs" and "severe spinal trauma"i mean. maybe it was the wrong hawk?!?!?! i'm sure it wasn't though cause i doubt that many hawks were transferred from TWRC to NC Raptor Center on the day in question.
6/30/2010 4:40:20 PM
6/30/2010 4:46:20 PM
^Even if those two statements are related in the way you're hinting, I think that's extremely poor form to try to attack someone when they're clearly dealing with a death like that.
6/30/2010 4:47:49 PM
yeah Peter, her and that hawk were very close. She read it bedtime stories every night and breastfeed it 3 times a day. You asshole!
6/30/2010 4:54:02 PM
^^^ well duh. that is what the vet said i'm just SAYING it took us like 45 minutes to catch her because she was running around super fast. but she probably thought she was being attacked so she was probably using her last bit of energy trying to outrun usbut she was super fast even running. and she moved her wings and all other parts of her body. i'm just saying for severe spinal trauma she sure put up a fight. but probably just an adrenaline rush cause we were threatening predators. i mean i'm clearly not a vet. and her condition could have obviously deteriorated after we dropped her off. it just seemed like something was wrong with her wings not her legs since she was running not flying. but whatevs.^ lol[Edited on June 30, 2010 at 4:54 PM. 6/30/2010 4:54:14 PM
Well fuck me for trying to be sympathetic.
6/30/2010 4:56:35 PM
I just thought it was funny sounding, in that she WAS able to use her legs until you used the shovel on her Definitely sounds like the wrong hawk. I'm sure adrenaline won't do shit to move your legs if your spine is broken.
6/30/2010 4:57:33 PM
^^ well thanks. i was a little disappointed and sad but i'm not going to go cry about it.anyways. this is about the hawk!RIP HAWK. you were a good hawk. and a pretty hawk.^ lol well her talons were fucking scary!! the shovel was necessary. i know that is what i was thinking. i mean he said "very little use" of legs, whatever that means. but how could she have been running w/ very little use of legs? maybe i'll call the TWRC where i dropped her off and see if THEY got an update and if it was the same one. haha. i just don't understand though what VERY LITTLE USE OF LEGS meanshttp://www.carolinaraptorcenter.org/adopt.phpOHHHH you can adopt/sponsor birds through the NC RAPTOR CENTER. this is like adopting a child but cooler and cheaper!!i can only afford the small owls group though. but i might do it! i want to adopt cinnamon or hermes or lana.
6/30/2010 5:22:29 PM
but an owl is not a raptor
6/30/2010 5:23:10 PM

bullshit.[Edited on June 30, 2010 at 5:27 PM. Reason : owls are bitches]
6/30/2010 5:27:05 PM
little hawk coulda had trauma, that as it inflamed, choked out the spinal cord and wings more. poor little baby bird. I so sad.
6/30/2010 5:27:21 PM
^ i know. that is what iw as also thinking. that maybe her condition just deteriorated rapidly once we rescued her
6/30/2010 5:27:47 PM
