something in contracts/legal deptor something in policy (maybe even policy research. though i don't have a ton of experience. just spss like every other state grad).something that one with a BA in poli sci and a JD could do
6/28/2010 10:13:20 PM

6/28/2010 10:14:56 PM

nothing in legal, a lot of technical sales work. I'll keep my eyes open. I usually check the page twice a day.[Edited on June 28, 2010 at 10:25 PM. Reason : and technical fields and healthcare.]
6/28/2010 10:19:13 PM

6/28/2010 10:25:48 PM
Keep in mind I have access to jobs posted only to those who work at SAS. They open them up for recommendations first.

^^ My sister in-law is doing the same type of thing with the DoD, and she seems to be enjoying it a lot. She started it about a year ago I think.
6/28/2010 10:48:07 PM
yeah, i can't wait to get up there and start. my uncle worked in acquisitions for the DoD a few years ago, and he said it was really interesting. not too excited about paying for rent in arlington though

im friends with a middle school principal & he said he was hiring for a teacher position. they had 45 applications & narrowed it down to 10. they ended up choosing someone who is just about to finish up school. sooo those just getting out of school can still get hired with no work experience! fwiw, he said her interview is what got her the job. im telling you people, personality will take you places! also she wrote a nice thank you note, but the group deciding was already unanimous on her before the note came
6/28/2010 10:59:02 PM
I finished in December with a BA in History which isn't the best degree to get. The state has had opening for people with these types of degrees, but it often requires multiple years of experience to go with the BA in History that they want.. I'm still at my Lowes Foods job which I was hoping for with the World Cup being on and all, but now that is nearing its end, so I need a real job. I didn't pass a test for the DDS otherwise I might have had a job by now.
6/28/2010 11:04:21 PM
^^ that is the truth. that is why i really just want to get interviewed! but i also DEFINITELY recommend writing thank you notes after an interview, even though in her case they already decided before they got it. it is really important to brush up on etiquette when job searching
6/28/2010 11:11:10 PM
Honestly I think the thank you note was the only reason I got my current position. I had the flu like something fierce during the interview and knew I wasn't at my prime and yet I got the job anyway!
6/28/2010 11:50:42 PM
This whole '3-5 years' job experience stuff is nonsense. Apply for the job anyway. They are appearantly looking for entry-level positions. The only job that says 'no experience required' is looking to stock shelves or run a cash register.

is it appropriate to send a hand written thank you card to a guy who dropped multiple F bombs during an interview? Something tells me my 4x6 card with a cheesy "Thank you" on the front wouldn't strike him as cool.

I graduated in December last year. Now I work in Durham at a small company that remanufactures Mercedes-Benz electronic parts. Laid back work environment, decent pay, nice people, LOTS of opportunity for advancement as there is a really brilliant start up diagnostics company that we partner with. Same dude started both companies.....and he's one of the technicians that I give parts to fix everyday. That company has JUST STARTED to go to market, after 8 years of R&D...it's really exciting most days, which is rare.
