wtf why did they spit on you?
11/10/2010 1:39:22 PM
seriously... why did they spit on you?
11/12/2010 11:33:15 AM
We may have to start a "Why was Minkagrl01 spat upon?" thread to find the answer...
11/12/2010 1:27:16 PM
done and done.
11/12/2010 1:34:44 PM
i thought black friday was after thanksgiving... what happened to that?
11/12/2010 2:01:26 PM
I have to work Friday but luckily my parents live in Raleigh so we'll spend Turkey Day w/ them on Thursday. That weekend we're planning to see the in-laws as some of the Florida relatives are coming up
11/12/2010 2:42:52 PM
Last 2 years I went with my buddy to his brother's and we all ate, and I also worked at Target for those 2 black fridays, now I have no plans and no job (though for this one day that is a fucking god send)
11/12/2010 4:09:33 PM
I can't fucking wait...turkey/deer hunting in VA
11/12/2010 5:29:11 PM
i'm counting on this year to be enjoyable and less dramatic than last year. here's to hoping!
11/14/2010 10:52:30 PM
I loathe the holiday season.
11/15/2010 1:20:14 AM
haha sorry guys, I'll just post here what I posted in the other thread.Yeah this woman, a black friday customer, was trying to cut in line after I told her she wasn't in line to begin with(just making her own line) and that she'd have to go to the end on of the line, which wasn't long yet anyways, the doors had only just opened about 15 minutes earlier. She just stood there, probably thought I was a silly white girl who wouldn't stand up to her. About a minute later she tried to push through the line again, I got between her and the line because I saw the people getting angry and told her to get to the end of the line. She spat. I had her taken out of the store.
11/15/2010 8:22:04 AM
I would have had her taken out of consciousness.
11/15/2010 10:48:46 AM
We bought our turkey yesterday. It's an 18-pound monster we picked up at Harris Teeter for $7. I had forgotten how cheap turkeys can be
11/15/2010 10:56:51 AM
one more full work week
11/15/2010 10:58:25 AM
I know!! I am so freaking excited.
11/15/2010 11:09:47 AM
I am going to be home alone for both Thanksgiving, Xmas, and New Years Eve. Yay for not having friends or family(well I have family but I avoid them).
11/15/2010 11:11:34 AM
I'm doing nothing for Thanksgiving. I'll be spending it either by myself or with a couple of other folks with no other family around.
11/15/2010 11:14:13 AM
^^ Treat yourself to a fancy meal somewhere like Irregardless. My family went there once for Thanksgiving because my dad was on a business trip and my mom was being a fuddy duddy
11/15/2010 11:15:13 AM
^^y'all should do a potluck thing then[Edited on November 15, 2010 at 11:15 AM. Reason : or the fancy meal is another option ]
11/15/2010 11:15:14 AM
Yeah potluck Thanksgiving dinners can be a lot of fun. They have a pretty good guide for coordinating one on epicurious.com
11/15/2010 11:26:22 AM
looking forward to a long weekend and a couple days off. also, eating well. especially my mom's brocolli casserole
11/15/2010 11:32:29 AM
My gambling-addict uncle who went to UMD will be in town, and I'm sure many angry bets will be placed over the course of the NCSU/UMD game that saturday...I'm thoroughly looking forward too it
11/15/2010 11:34:08 AM
11/15/2010 11:38:08 AM
gonna get from wednesday evening till sunday night to drive from florida to new bern and back. stay with family....missed the last two back home
11/15/2010 1:04:09 PM
Thinking I'll make this cranberry sauce: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Persimmon-Cranberry-Sauce-233000
11/16/2010 2:21:19 PM
I'm making NC BBQ for my family in Virginia. (slow cooking 2 shoulders on my smoker the day before)Also deep frying a turkey.
11/16/2010 2:23:22 PM
NC BBQ sounds pretty tasty
11/17/2010 9:55:53 AM
I have already purchased a wee little butterball turkey to cook for us two, but now I am thinking I want to make short ribs instead. It's so hard to plan a thanksgiving menu for two people, when all I have ever done is the large family thanksgiving dinner (with the exception of one or two years of just me, mom, and my brother). Man I'm going to miss that green bean casserole this year
11/17/2010 10:05:27 AM
drivin to Atlanta to see family. I'm excited.
11/17/2010 10:13:38 AM
^^ Why can't you just scale it down? Instead of making 10 side dishes just do 3 or so, and make them in small portions. Freeze some if you have to. Leftovers are one of my favorite things about hosting holiday meals. (On that note, I can't wait until I get to host holiday things again. My family used to have Christmas every year and I did the cooking, but now that I've grown up I probably won't get to do it again until some time after I have kids And even then it could be a battle.)[Edited on November 17, 2010 at 10:14 AM. 11/17/2010 10:14:00 AM
i was just given the responsibility of the turkey! AND i'm doing the sides. partly because i love doing it but mostly because i don't trust anyone to make it like i do, and i'm pretty stuck in my ways when it comes to how thanksgiving should taste in my parents home.[Edited on November 17, 2010 at 9:37 PM. Reason : ]
11/17/2010 9:35:07 PM
My mom insists we need an apple pie, a pumpkin pie, and a chocolate cake... It's just the 6 of us!!!
11/18/2010 3:05:29 PM
^^ Turkey responsibility is a great one. Don't mess it up! My sister just found out TODAY, via me, that Thanksgiving is at my place this year. You'd think my parents would bother to tell her this since she lives with them
11/18/2010 3:09:08 PM
I called my sister today and she said she would take on the turkey. I'm pretty sure that means she is going to buy one from Honey Baked Ham, but atleast it will be tasty!
11/18/2010 4:52:02 PM
yayayayso excited, it's only a week away
11/18/2010 4:53:05 PM
OMG super ready for it to be over so i can make: Turkey Pot Pie. My ex Boyfriend's Aunt made the BEST pot pie.
11/18/2010 5:19:26 PM
Oh hells yes turkey pot pie. I make mini ones in these deep dish muffin tins I have and stick them in the freezer for a quick weeknight meal This weekend I'm going to the farmers market to stock up on supplies for the feast. I'm debating if I should go Saturday before the game or Sunday.
11/19/2010 10:01:11 AM
anyone have any suggestions for a simple cranberry side dish or dessert? i've never done the cranberry dish before but i'd like to give it a try.
11/20/2010 12:50:23 PM
Mashed potatoes FTW!!!
11/20/2010 2:14:58 PM
we got some cheap tickets to the Jets game Thanksgiving night. YAY! Still going to cook a little turkey, some stuffing, crescent rolls, and maybe some broccoli for an early supper. It's nice to actually have something to do that night.
11/21/2010 10:30:29 AM
i don't really dig canned cranberry saucei'm either going to let the dressing/stuffing (i don't really know the approp term) be the cranberry (cause its going to have dried cranberries in it) orrrr do some other sweeter dressing with dried cranberriesthat canned stuff is so nasty. i don't know why i just thought about it, but i did and it makes me ill hahaha
11/21/2010 12:39:33 PM
i'm not a fan of the jarred stuff at all and no one else really is, except for my mom. i was trying to think of something else easy to do but it's not a staple to us, so i'll just let her be with that wiggly jiggly stuff.
11/21/2010 1:31:20 PM
orange cranberry sauce with gingerhttp://alladither.typepad.com/halfassedkitchen/2009/11/orange-cranberry-sauce-with-ginger.html
11/21/2010 2:07:14 PM
^ omg so funny you posted that i was JUST looking at that recipehave you made it before? it sounds pretty yummymy grandmother loves to make cranberry salad. i'm not eating w/ my fam this year, but she is like obsessed with making it (cranberry salad mold...in a circle jello mold thing). and my dad loves it too. its seriously the stuff they serve at like cafeterias and nursing homes. at least that is what it reminds me of. *SHUDDER*if i don't make something like that ^ i'm not dealing with cranberries at all. except the dried ones in my stuffinggggg. mmmm. stuffing.
11/21/2010 2:28:11 PM
oooh that sounds really good! she mentions she saw some already made @ trader joe's-- i may do that instead
11/21/2010 2:29:45 PM
Just finished making my cranberry sauce Thank goodness I had a cleaned out pasta sauce jar to store it in until Thursday lol. This is the one I made: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Persimmon-Cranberry-Sauce-233000Simple but oh so tasty. Sadly Grand Asia didn't have very good looking fuyu persimmons so I'm using hachiya instead. I don't know how that will affect things. Guess we'll find out Thursday. Now I have the pumpkin and the cornbread in the oven. Should probably clean the bathroom while waiting for that to finish
11/21/2010 2:32:15 PM
I haven't made it before, but I might try it sometime soon. looks pretty easy and i love cranberries, oranges, and ginger.
11/21/2010 2:43:41 PM
i love the cran/orange combo (especially w/ vodka... lol ) but i really don't like ginger at all.
11/21/2010 2:55:44 PM
GASP! i love ginger! cran/orange is so delicious, too. cran/orange/ginger sounds amazing
11/21/2010 2:58:53 PM
