When I used to be really fit, I had no issues at all with sitting in a chair 8 hours a day. When I stopped being fit just a few hours were a pain. Now that I'm getting back in shape I definitely notice when I don't do situps one week.Just get your core strong.

Apparently I have good posture. I've never put a lot of thought into it though. Common comments are things like "were you in the military?"I guess I just try to make myself tall when I stand, walk, etc. Walk with purpose, sit up straight in your chair, and do some sit ups.

qfred... I had to have my back taped when I was in PT for my neck to make my posture better (I was slouching the alleviate the pain of the neck muscles ). It sucked at first but it made a huge difference... I would try looking it up - punchy may be able to help you out and put it on for youAlso, there are shirts you can buy (my old PT recommended these):http://www.intelliskinusa.com/

i would definitely do a stand up deski feel that i think much betterer when i can shuffle around a little bittalking to myself helps too, but i work with my coworkers in an open layout floorplan...i think they'd tire of me pretty quickly if i took to that habit

buy an iPosture, shit vibrates when you're slouching, apparently you can be fixed in a few weeks wearing it.http://www.iposture.com/[Edited on November 15, 2010 at 11:57 PM. Reason : Kinda spendy]

^^ My boss has a bad back so he got a monitor that he can raise and work on while standing. Its not a constant thing, just something to do several times a day to stretch it out.Personally I leave my desk and waste time when my back gets sore.Damn, maybe thats why he's the boss.]

I, too, have horrible posture. My former personal trainer said it takes up to 7 years to correct posture in people over 25. I think I look weird walking around now that i'm trying to do better about it.

I was on the verge of having problems, and I was going to go the chair route and all that bullshit, but I ended up just getting stronger.Abs exercises and shit like deadlifts, squats, etc. Makes it easier to sit up straight, and it also teaches you good posture because to do the lifts, you have to have good posture. Also, upper body exercises can indirectly help because it gives you a reason to stand straight up and stick the chest out.I think a lot of people have back problems because they are just not in very good shape. The body is not really well-adapted to a sedentary lifestyle. If you stand someone with poor posture next to someone with good posture, the person with poor posture looks like a huge pussy. It's amazing how much posture can affect how you are perceived. [Edited on November 18, 2010 at 12:45 AM. Reason : .]
