Wish I could go to the next one

6am tomorrow for the ISS.
3/25/2011 10:55:37 AM
you can see the iss pretty well for the next couple of days (and a few days ago). nasa via fb said you can actually make out the shape of it w/ regular binoculars.
4/21/2011 11:05:53 AM
A little upset I live in the city and can't see anything in the sky. I might head over to the planetarium to check it out.
4/21/2011 11:12:34 AM
probably gonna be cloudy tonight...what facebook site did you get that info from?
4/21/2011 11:38:22 AM
i drove to the beach saturday night and saw the ISS... i knew what it was without even having to look it up. Then the next night i saw it again. it was very impressive... looked brighter than venus does sometimes.
4/21/2011 11:45:53 AM
^^
4/21/2011 12:04:16 PM
i know you said nasa, but there are about 50 different nasa ones when i do a search, and then it gives me people's names as well
4/21/2011 12:09:12 PM
^^No... it is supposed to convey the awesome size and visibility of the most expensive structure ever built. I don't understand why you are always bitchy towards me on here.
4/21/2011 12:37:35 PM
It's not just you. She's just bitchy in general.

^^^^ it's from THE nasa. http://www.facebook.com/NASA
4/21/2011 1:59:21 PM
well I'm glad that a person who I have never met seems so hellbent on hating me!
4/21/2011 3:51:12 PM
we saw it, but just barely. either my iphone or nasa's estimate is about 2 minutes off though. i'm betting it's the phone
4/21/2011 9:24:24 PM
Yeah, these things don't tend to be "estimated" considering how precise the orbit is. But then again the locations may be a bit general in your reference. I am surprised that you saw it through the clouds.
4/21/2011 9:29:57 PM
It wasn't cloudy out here (I'm in rocky mount, not Raleigh).
4/21/2011 11:12:35 PM
I blinked

It was sad to see Endeavour liftoff for the last time [Edited on May 16, 2011 at 10:16 AM. Reason : ]
5/16/2011 10:09:10 AM
endeavor will undock from ISS tonight before midnight...around 445AM tomorrow morning you will be able to see both objects VERY close together fly across the sky....in case anyone wants to get up and check it out
5/29/2011 10:09:20 PM
will the lack of light be an issue?
5/29/2011 10:16:03 PM
i really really hope that atlantis will come around in the evening instead of wee hours of the morning. i suppose i'll get up early at least 1 day since it'd be the last time ever...but i'd rather not have to. ^sighting opportunities are posted with the times & days that you can see themhttp://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cities/view.cgi?country=United_States®ion=North_Carolina&city=Raleigh[Edited on May 29, 2011 at 10:20 PM. only thing is, for this one, the max elevation is 20 degrees... i don't believe i'll be able to see that around my house... i don't have a good view of the horizon....how many fists is 20 degrees?
5/29/2011 10:39:54 PM
Sucks wall the sightings this mission are all early am
5/29/2011 10:42:03 PM
Landing in 20 minuteshttp://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/ustream.html
6/1/2011 2:15:08 AM
up to watch.
6/1/2011 2:19:53 AM
That was pretty awesome
6/1/2011 2:37:02 AM
sad there is only one more shuttle flight. what an awesome machine.
6/1/2011 2:39:39 AM
yeah, fuck Obama
6/1/2011 2:40:35 AM
i'm no fan of obama, but bush decided to retire the shuttles back in 2004ish.
6/1/2011 2:43:40 AM
yeah that was a bush-era thing.they needed to be retired, though. maybe could have gotten a couple more years out of them. i think 2014 was the ultimate drop dead date.
6/1/2011 2:45:49 AM
The shuttles originally were designed to only have 20 years of service. Retiring them now in 2011 was already pushing it, so Bush was really just doing what had to be done.
6/1/2011 8:58:33 AM
agreed, but it would have been nice to have had a legitimate replacement by the time they were retired.
6/1/2011 8:59:50 AM
Well Bush put Constellation into place but didn't really give the proper funding and reasonable time constraints. Obama wasn't pleased with what we had done and in general doesn't support manned spaceflight and decided against it. So I guess they tag teamed us. It's cool that both liberals and conservatives in the executive branch are against NASA . At least they can agree on something.
6/1/2011 9:08:51 AM
ha!
6/1/2011 11:17:03 AM
i don't get how you could not support manned space flight. It's pretty much one of the most awesome things ever
6/1/2011 12:33:52 PM
maybe because its expensive, dangerous, and will only lead to epic alien wars and the end of humanity
6/1/2011 12:37:04 PM
real time location of ISS:http://www.n2yo.com/?s=25544I'm going to try and talk to them (on 2 meter ham) when I have the chance. the link above also has location and visibility prediction 5 days out for the ISS and many many other satellitesalso, this is an awesome pic... view image for the full size (2549x1696px):[Edited on June 1, 2011 at 12:49 PM. NASA has an android app, it'll show you upcoming launches and future viewings of the iss and other objects![/nerd]
8/1/2011 8:37:52 AM
The US may have "retired" manned spaceflight but if we needed to put Bruce Willis on an asteroid next week you better believe we have something ready to do it.
8/1/2011 10:16:23 AM
^What would it be?all the shuttles have had most of their operational pieces taken off and they are almost ready to be put in their respective museums...
8/1/2011 10:59:59 AM
He'd have to go up on a Russian Soyuz. Also, this was taken from the ISS during Atlantis' reentry:
