what the fuck who would ever do that?!

$100k isn't a lifestyle-changing sum of money. i'd buy some land in the sticks and if there was any money left i'd spend it on building a house on said land.

yea... i'd invest in real-estate or GOLD. The US dollar is on it's way down. To dodge the Taxes:

problem with gold is it's at it's alltime high... who knows where it's going. and ultimately, when the markets hit a point of stability and recover, you have less people buying gold, and more selling it. at this stage you may lose money... 08, shit yeah, go for it.

Warren Buffett just last week shunned gold, saying it was a poor investment right now.

Buy a 100k worth of century link and enjoy the bonus 7.1k in dividends each year.

buy some great outragous jewelry. It keeps it's value and you can sell it for more later if you know what you are doing.

I would buy a gun safe, because I've been meaning to do that anyway (for guns, as well as cash, important documents, etc). I'd keep maybe $5000 in there, and put the rest in a safe deposit box. I'd deposit small amounts (<$1000) every once in a while (once every month or two).I wouldn't buy anything crazy. $100k would be a life-changing sum of money if I was 21 years old and in college, but not so much now. I'd probably buy a few things that I could easily buy now but haven't (new seats for my car, a spare set of wheels and tires dedicated for racetrack use, and a few other little odds and ends that I've gone back and forth about spending the money on). I'd probably be incrementally more liberal in my purchasing (like, I want to buy an airplane...I might spend $45k instead of $35k or something...and sell my Corvette and spent a few extra thousand on a nice 911).Really, though, it wouldn't enable me to live grossly different than I do now. It would be more of an incremental improvement.

How many pennies do I need for a Scrooge McDuck-style swimming pool? Is that even safe or sanitary? How does one sanitize copious amounts of coinage?
5/3/2011 8:16:24 PM
You know the area of a penny. You know the area of your swimming pool. Divide A of S.P. by A of P and you get Num of pennies

It depends on how mysterious the circumstances are.If you just happened upon the money and took it, then you need to move far, far away right now.

I'd just pay the fucking taxes and live without the fear of getting caught and could use the money any damn way I please anytime I please. It's not like you worked for the money. If I found $65,000 on the ground without the added hassle, I'd still be just as happy as if I found $100,000 with the added hassle of playing hide-and-go-seek.[Edited on May 4, 2011 at 3:55 AM. I, too, wish I didn't have a house payment. I really believe my life would be radically different in a positive way without it.[Edited on May 4, 2011 at 9:30 AM. Reason : l]

I am sure some people will be like oh you can invest it in the stock market and bonds and mutual funds for a projected x% roi and in eleventy billion years you will be bill gates...but then I think who gives a shit??? If I did not have a house payment I could skate by on just a few hundred a month, or still work hard and have a lot of things that I want in life. ]
5/4/2011 9:48:15 AM
I, too, wish I didn't have a house payment. But not in the way where I wish I didn't own a house because I love what the house provides my wife and I. I just think anyone would love to not have to pay rent or mortgage, since that is usually the lion's share of anyone's minimum living expenses month to month.

I just ran a calculator for $65,000 and it changed my payoff date to May 2019 from may 2036. I need to find $65,000 laying around. [Edited on May 4, 2011 at 9:55 AM. Reason : with $100,000 it becomes 2014 WANT ]
