i feel like i googled this kind of stuff a few years ago. i grew up taking dance and competing on the national level and missed it (i dislocated my hip when i was 16 and that kind of put the kibosh on everything....plus i hated the dance studio i was at when we moved to raleigh). there used to be a studio off glenwood avenue like a block from my condo downtown that i had inquired about. they had adult classes that anyone could take and they had the breakdown of how much it would cost (i think $60/month for 4 classes a month).you can also check out craigslist. i think i also found some stuff in Durham.

Yeah I don't think there's anything wrong with "urging" your kid to keep at an activity like violin or dance or whatever. But some parents take it way too far. If your kid is actively resisting whatever the activity is and just really really hates it after a couple of years, give them the chance to try something new.

Child beauty pageants are not at all similar to dance or gymnastics, so I don't see how people are making that comparison. Beauty pageants are a way for moms to live out their fucked up, "I'm a pretty pretty princess" fantasy, except that since they're way beyond the point of being able to do that, so they live vicariously through their helpless children.Have your kids play a sport, learn to play an instrument, use computers, whatever, but don't explicitly show them how to be superficial.
